MSI has introduced the 17-inch Raider GE78 HX 14V and 16-inch Raider GE68 HX 14V gaming laptops at CES 2024. As is evident from the name, the machines are refreshes of the 2023 Raider GE78 and GE68 HX 13V notebooks with notable spec improvements. Both 2024 Raider GE laptops feature up to a Core i9-14900HX Raptor Lake Refresh CPU and up to an RTX 4090 GPU.

MSI launched the Raider GE78HX 13V and GE68 HX 13V last year with Intel’s 13th-gen CPUs and RTX 40 series laptop GPUs. The 2023 laptops featured a complete chassis redesign with an RGB logo on the back, a lightbar in the front, and per-key RGB keyboards. Moreover, MSI outfitted the 2023 models with 16:10 displays. This year, MSI has decided to update the internals only while sticking to the same design with the 2024 Raider GE78 HX 14V and Raider GE68 HX 14V.

The biggest difference between the 2023 and the 2024 Raider GE78/68 models is that users can now configure the Raider GE78 and 68 HX 14V with up to a Core i9-14900HX CPU. On the GPU side, the latest Raider GE78 and 68 HX still offer the same options ranging from a mid-range RTX 4060 laptop up to an RTX 4090 laptop GPU.

Additionally, depending on the GPU configuration, the Raider GE78 HX can deliver a combined 250 W to the CPU and dGPU courtesy of MSI Overboost Ultra. The Raide GE68 HX caps out at 240 W.

Moving on to storage and RAM, both the 2024 Raider GE78 HX and 68 HX feature two M.2 slots (one supporting PCIe Gen 5) and two SO-DIMM slots for a maximum of 2 TB storage and 64 GB of DDR5-5600 memory respectively.

On the display front, the smaller Raider GE68 HX can now be configured with up to a 16-inch 120 Hz UHD+ panel. As a reference, last year’s GE68 HX 13V (Available on Amazon) tops out at a 240 Hz QHD panel. That said, users still have 17 and 16-inch 240 Hz QHD+ and 165 Hz FHD+ options for both the Raider GE78 and the GE68 HX 14V.

When it comes to ports, the 2024 Raider GE78 HX and GE68 HX feature a healthy selection that includes a Thunderbolt 4, one Type-C port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery, an HDMI 2.1 output, a full-size SD card reader, and a Kensington lock, to name a few.

Other notable specs include Wi-Fi 7, an FHD webcam with IR, per-key RGB keyboards, and a 99 Wh battery.

Per MSI, the Raider GE68 HX 14V with a UHD+ Mini-LED display, 2 TB SSD, 64 GB RAM, an RTX 4070 GPU and a Core i9-14900HX CPU will retail at $2,499. The Raider GE78 HX 14V with a QHD+ panel, an RTX 4070 board, a Core i9-14900HX CPU, 32 GB of RAM, and 1 TB storage will cost $2,399.
