Without a doubt, the MSI Raider GE76 Deluxe Edition is a powerful gaming laptop. As a flagship of the MSI offers, you’re getting one of the most powerful CPU and GPU combinations for a laptop. The Intel Core i9-12900HK and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will shred through the games at 1440p or 1080p if you wanted to get that 120FPS gaming experience. The 4K 120Hz IPS display may not be the fastest of all, but if you’re planning to get the laptop for both gaming as well as productivity, then this display should be able to satisfy all your needs in those workloads. At the official price tag of RM20,999, sure the price is extremely steep and not for the faint-hearted. We all know the diminishing return when it comes to top-of-the-line products. However, if you’re looking for that extra bit of performance and have the budget for it. Then you should be happy with the purchase.

The 2022 refresh of MSI’s top-of-the-line gaming laptop gets Intel 12th gen 14-core processors and NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti 150 watt and 3080 Ti 16GB 175 watt updates. This is a 17.3” laptop, but for those who want it smaller, there’s the 15.6” Raider GE66 with similar specs. The MSI Raider GE76 is available with 360Hz FHD, 240Hz QHD and 120Hz 4K displays, has a per key Steel Series RGB keyboard with front light bar, has plenty of ports including Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, 2.5G Ethernet and an SD card slot, and your choice of a Core i7 or overclockable Core i9 processor. The Core i9 has phase-change liquid metal cooling. It’s still one of our top gaming laptop picks, if money is no object.

Let’s get the elephant out of the room first – the MSI GE76 Raider is without a doubt the fastest 17-inch gaming notebook you can buy right now. I say it’s the fastest because the numbers above don’t lie. But is it the best? For notebooks, there are many other variables to consider such as battery life, design, keyboard, and so on. It’s some of these factors that I felt the GE76 Raider can be improved on. After all, at S$7,799 for the 4K screen model, I would expect a certain level of premium-ness to its look and feel. But this review isn’t just about the GE76 Raider. It is also a showcase of the kind of power we can expect from new, modern gaming notebooks coming out this year and beyond. The powerful combination of the Intel Core i9-12900HK and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop represents a step forward for gaming laptops in terms of performance. For Intel in particular, also about how they have brought their A-game back again.

While we are happy about the move to Intel 12th Gen we continue to struggle with the problems that Dominic detailed in his review of the 2021 model. This is a large and heavy laptop that is supplied with a high refresh 1080p display, and that is a curious combination of features. The price is very high, however you don’t get that premium feel you expect from the likes of Apple and Razer and instead are left with the impression that you are paying top dollar for mega performance. A substantial part of the price is down to the choice of graphics chips which is a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU and while that sounds impressive it cannot compete with the desktop equivalent as it is held back by power limits. This laptop was sent to us by Intel, rather than MSI, and it is clear that the CPU is impressive. More to the point 12th Gen is only the beginning of Intel’s use of hybrid technology. We fully expect 13th Gen will increase the number of low power E cores and that should help increase both the performance and also the battery life.

We've been longtime fans of MSI's GE76 Raider. They're solidly built machines that deliver reliable performance. That said, when it comes to the exterior, not much has changed on the latest iteration. The insides, however, sport far superior hardware: Intel's 14-core Core i9-12900HK and Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU. Not only were we pleased with the CPU and GPU performance, but we also really liked the 1080p webcam and the punchy audio. Read on to learn more. Since you're likely familiar with the GE76 Raider, we'll skip talking up the exterior features of it here except to point out the giant RGB LED stripped across its front and go right into what matters: The inside.

This iteration of the GE76 Raider is the fastest one yet! That's just lazy reviewer speak hunting to be quoted in company ad-copy. The honest truth is this: This laptop is the best we've seen with significant increases over previous iterations. And we're not talking five years, either. The first time we saw the GE76 Raider was early 2020 when it was outfitted with a 10th gen Intel 8-core Core i7-10870H. Two years later, the latest model features a hefty 85 percent higher score in multi-core performance. It doesn't main that edge in single-core performance, but a 58 percent improvement in performance is nothing to scoff at. If there's one knock we have on the GE76 Raider, it's the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, as it doesn't quite impress as much. On paper, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti adds 20 percent more to, well, everything from shader cores to ray tracing cores, but it washes out from 4 to 12 percent in the end. That's good but not the punch some might have expected.

This iteration of the GE76 Raider is the fastest one yet! That’s just lazy reviewer speak hunting to be quoted in company ad-copy. The honest truth is this: This laptop is the best we’ve seen with significant increases over previous iterations. One thing certainly worth whining over is the price. With its 4K UHD 120Hz panel, 12th gen Core i9, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU, and 32GB of DDR5/4800, the GE76 Raider 12UHS pushes $4,200. That’s a serious, serious chunk of change. In the end, while we think the GE76 Raider is due for a makeover, we can’t complain about a laptop that’s now offering a substantial performance boost over the version sold just two years ago.

Intel's top-end 12th Gen ‘Alder Lake' mobile CPU, the Core i9-12900HK, is a beast. It reached new heights in several benchmarks and sets a high bar for AMD to match with its upcoming Ryzen 6000 series. The combination of this CPU, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU, the 360Hz screen, and all the other top-end hardware in the Raider GE76 made for a phenomenal gaming experience. Once you get used to playing at well over 100fps in multiple high-end titles at their highest possible settings, it's hard to go back. I'm still not convinced that the 360Hz refresh rate is worth dropping to 1080p for, but that's why multiple options are available. Of course this kind of laptop isn't for everyone. Not only is the MSI Raider GE76 bulky by today's standards, but it also runs hot and is ludicrously expensive. This kind of money could buy you a fairly capable small car, brand new, and it's quite certain that something significantly better will come along in a year or less. A laptop of this calibre is a luxurious indulgence, and while it should work great for many years, it won't be top-of-the-line for long.

MSI's top-end 17-inch Raider GE76 gaming laptop comes with state-of-the-art components that let it fly. It's stacked with an Intel Core i9-12900HK CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU. That processor is the newest Intel mobile Alder Lake architecture, which splits the cores into performance-optimized and efficiency-optimized (like Apple's M1 chips). And while the RTX 3080 Ti is just a new iteration of Nvidia's top mobile GPU, the MSI shows how well it performs when you push it -- and not even to the max -- in a system that allows it to draw full power. In other words, the components are performing better than they would on a laptop with a pretty thin-and-light design; those have to compromise on power for the sake of cooling, battery size and AC adapter size. The downside is that the Raider is a lot more traditional. It also lacks Nvidia's Advanced Optimus, which is better at juggling the internal and discrete GPUs than the older version of Optimus used in the Raider GE76.

The MSI GE76 Raider is a powerhouse of a laptop that can bring workstation-grade performance wherever you go. Every piece of hardware is carefully chosen to provide the best performance possible. However, performance on par with high-end gaming desktops comes at a cost: the Raider weighs over six pounds, doesn’t fit in most backpacks, and quickly runs out of battery. If you need a (semi) portable workstation desktop, the Raider is unmatched, but it is undeniably a product laser-built for its niche.

Intel’s 12th-gen H-series processors are the best that you can get in a gaming laptop, and the Core i9-12900HK really shows it off. It’s a 45W CPU that can go way farther, especially since it’s unlocked for overclocking. From our testing, we’ve seen in every benchmark that it outperforms the competition. It’s worth keeping in mind, of course, that it’s also the newest thing. It comes out on par with Apple’s M1 Max in benchmarks, so when we get an M2 Max at some point, it will obviously beat this. That’s how these things work; it’s back and forth. AMD also hasn’t started offering its Ryzen 6000 H-series laptops for review yet. But then again, you can’t play the same games on a Mac that you can on Windows. That’s why it makes it easy to say that this is absolutely the best gaming CPU right now. The only competitor is AMD. Right now, Intel gets to just be king of the hill, especially when it comes to gaming. For creator applications, there’s still a whole family of 45W Alder Lake CPUs to choose from, and from what we’ve seen, Intel 12th-gen is a winner.

The MSI Raider GE76 is an absolute beast of a gaming laptop, packed with the most powerful hardware you can get, and none of it is constrained in any way. You won't have to compromise on performance just because you got a laptop. However, it is extremely heavy, and is bundled with Norton Antivirus for some reason, which sits oddly with its premium price tag.

MSI has unleashed the beast and I couldn’t be happier. The company gave me everything I want in a gaming laptop –– power and more power. The MSI GE76 Raider tore through nearly everything we threw at it thanks to the latest 12th Gen Intel processor and Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti GPU. And despite its hefty weight, it looks good doing it. But the Raider is more than brute force, it’s wicked fast too, serving up one of the faster transfer rates I’ve seen in awhile. However, for $4,199, I would have liked the display to be brighter and more vivid. And if that’s important to you, I’d suggest checking out the new $4,799 Alienware X17. But if you’re looking for power with a surprising amount of endurance, the MSI GE76 Raider is the clear choice.

The display in the MSi GE76 Raider is also perfectly suited to its audience. It doesn’t get particularly bright and its resolution isn’t high, but that buttery smooth 360Hz refresh rate results is ultra-smooth animations and the lowest possible latency, without having to deal with any visual artifacts, and with vibrant colors and excellent viewing angles to boot. The large display and 1080p resolution mean you won’t have to enable display scaling in Windows either. There’s really a lot to like with the Intel Alder Lake-H powered MSI GE76 Raider. In addition to offering killer performance with virtually any type of workload, from gaming to content creation, it is attractive and well-mannered. The Intel Core i9-12900HK and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU are a perfect match that offer top-end performance across the board, in a leading edge platform with all of the latest IO and connectivity options. If you’ve got the budget for a flagship machine like this, we have no problem strongly recommending the MSI GE76 Raider. This machine is a beast.
