I’ll also add that MSI haven’t shared much in terms of availability and pricing for these models, but I’d expect them in-store around February 2021, given what I know about the competition’s timeline. Looking forward to properly give them a spin and share our findings with you.

After two years with the same GE75 design, MSI is ready to move forward with a full frontal redesign of the series. The result is a system that is heavier than its predecessor but for all the right reasons.

Performance, endurance and RGB lighting, the MSI GE76 Raider gives me everything I love about a gaming laptop. Armed with a Core i7 processor and Nvidia’s monstrous RTX 3080 GPU, the laptop’s power cannot be denied. And depending on what mode you’re using, the Raider’s battery can go the distance. On top of that, it’s got excellent audio, blistering-fast transfer speeds, and is one of the first gaming laptops to feature Wi-Fi 6.

This top-configuration of the MSI GE76 Raider is the fastest gaming laptop we've tested so far and one of the fastest currently available on the market. Having a 155W 3080 and i9 inside is what's driving the performance, paired with an alright thermal solution, a MUX switch, and a fast display. Throw in the premium design and craftsmanship, good inputs and IO, and the big battery, and this looks like a hard-to-match performance laptop. The devil is in the details, though, and as you'll find out in this review, there are some aspects that you need to carefully consider before jumping on this one.

We’ve now seen three laptops with Nvidia’s mobile GeForce RTX 3080, and each offers their own distinctive personalities. Gigabyte’s Aorus 17 features a slightly faster CPU performance but much slower graphics performance, thanks to its lower-wattage GPU. To make up for that, the laptop is drop-dead silent for a gaming laptop, with the sound level barely breaking 38 dBA. The Asus ROG Flow X13 with its eGPU offers that wickedly fast Ryzen 5000 CPU and the RTX 3080, but its eGPU makes it far more cumbersome when you want to game.

We test the RTX 3080 16GB model with one of the highest watt mobile GPUs on the market at 155 watts. The 27.4mm thick laptop has an aluminum lid and keyboard deck and weighs 6.4 lb. / 2.9 kg. Ours has a fast refresh 300Hz full HD IPS display and there’s a 4K option for creators. It’s currently available with Intel 10th gen H series 45 watt CPUs, and we test the 8-core i7 model. Other features include Wi-Fi 6E, a per key SteelSeries RGB keyboard with “Mystic” light bar on the front edge, a more chill titanium blue chassis and a wide selection of ports. And yes, it can play Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra with Ray Tracing maxed!

At RM9999, this SKU of the GE76 Raider is very clearly a better value than its predecessor with the RTX 3070 and the recycled 10th generation Intel mobile CPU. On that note, I would be remiss if I did not point out that the launch of Intel’s 11th generation CPUs for laptops is just a day out from their official launch, and MSI is likely to refresh the GE series with said components. Ultimately, you do have choices: hold on just a little longer for access to Tiger Lake and PCIe 4.0 or bite the bullet and just purchase this version of the GE76 right now. Either way, you’re still guaranteed a relatively satisfying performance.

MSI has equipped the GE76 Raider with a new CPU and Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3080, which is currently the most powerful graphics card for laptops. Our review will reveal what the new features are. Update: Better multi-core performance in the production model.

The GE76 Raider is, objectively, the definition of top-of-the-line, eschewing portability and battery life to deliver raw, uncompromising power for a very particular niche. You’d be hard pressed to find more performance in a package you can technically take with you, and when paired with a monitor this machine is a desktop replacement that truly lives up to the name.

The MSI GE76 Raider isn't the ultimate 17.3-inch esports laptop it sets out to be. Its admirable qualities—quiet cooling fans, a fast PCI Express Gen 4 SSD, good connectivity, decent speakers, and a sharp 1080p webcam—are outweighed by larger issues. Our review unit's Core i9 HK-series CPU and GeForce RTX 3080 didn't perform as well as expected in our esports testing, which is hard to accept given this laptop's size. Its dim screen is perhaps the biggest letdown. The Asus ROG Zephyrus S17 and Alienware x17 are both better 17.3-inch options, and the 16-inch Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 6 can outrun them both.

The MSI GE76 Raider is an excellent gaming laptop. It’s big and heavy, but it’s also excellent for gaming and content creation. It delivers top-tier performance in nearly all types of games even with ray tracing enabled, has enough gusto to stream to Twitch, and won’t break a sweat handling a large edit in Adobe Premiere Pro. It features enough connectivity to replace a desktop in space-constrained scenarios and will look good doing it thanks to its metal chassis and eye-catching RGB. In sheer horsepower, this PC is a winner. Still, the MSI GE76 remains a killer gaming laptop—if you can afford it and live with its few challenges. It’s fast enough to handle modern games and has a speedy screen for high-intensity esports. If you’re looking for top-of-the-line gaming in a package you can take anywhere, and don’t mind paying for the privilege, this is a laptop well worth considering.

We’ve already tested out a bunch of laptops which have the Intel Core i7-11800H and the temperature readout has been surprisingly good, however the Intel Core i9-11980HK transcends to the lofty figures north of 95C. While this 11980HK does offer the ability to overclock, the high temperatures will severely limit the overclocking potential. The pricing for such a high-end gaming laptop shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. GE76 Raider can be purchased for: GBP £4200 USD $4000 | AUD $8000. Even though we fully expected a big price-tag, we didn’t expect it to come in at such a figure. This laptop should also arrive with a 2 year warranty in most regions.

MSI laptops are not the least expensive on the market, but the company tends to deliver high-quality devices for every generation. They seem to have delivered again with the GE76 Raider. There is plenty of performance, lots of expansion, and lots of choices to hit different price ranges, or to target different use-cases. It is nice to see them include options high-refresh displays across the range, from FHD to QHD to UHD. The MSI GE76 Raider packs a wallop. If you are in the market for a gaming system, this system needs to be on the short list for anyone who craves framerate. At $3399 for the model we tested, it is silly season on GPUs right now, but as a gaming replacement system, it's going to be a fun option to consider.

Overall, the MSI GE76 Raider is an incredible gaming notebook. It's hard to call a $3,000+ gaming machine a bargain or even a great value, but in this case, it's the fastest gaming notebook we've tested, bar none. It's tops in productivity, gaming, and even battery life performance. The aesthetic is attractive and understated, at least once you turn off the RGB, and the keyboard and display are wonderful. Gamers who have come up empty looking for graphics cards could spend close to $3,000 on a desktop GeForce RTX 3080, or spend about that much on a notebook and get a whole system upgrade in the process. That's true of most gaming notebooks, but the MSI GE76 Raider's mix of performance, price and features puts it in an elite class. We really like this machine; it's an easy Editor's Choice.

MSI GE76 Raider (2021)’s 300Hz IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, good contrast ratio, and comfortable backlight. Also, it covers 94% of the sRGB gamut and doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment. Ultimately, its color accuracy with our Gaming and Web design profile is right within the standards for professional work. Additionally, MSI offers a bunch of tools in their software, that allows you to improve the image quality or to personalize it to your own preferences. Not in the last place, the OverDrive option makes the panel one of the fastest we’ve tested in terms of pixel response time.

MSI's top-end 17-inch Raider GE76 gaming laptop comes with state-of-the-art components that let it fly. It's stacked with an Intel Core i9-12900HK CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU. That processor is the newest Intel mobile Alder Lake architecture, which splits the cores into performance-optimized and efficiency-optimized (like Apple's M1 chips). And while the RTX 3080 Ti is just a new iteration of Nvidia's top mobile GPU, the MSI shows how well it performs when you push it -- and not even to the max -- in a system that allows it to draw full power. In other words, the components are performing better than they would on a laptop with a pretty thin-and-light design; those have to compromise on power for the sake of cooling, battery size and AC adapter size. The downside is that the Raider is a lot more traditional. It also lacks Nvidia's Advanced Optimus, which is better at juggling the internal and discrete GPUs than the older version of Optimus used in the Raider GE76.

The MSI GE76 Raider is a powerhouse of a laptop that can bring workstation-grade performance wherever you go. Every piece of hardware is carefully chosen to provide the best performance possible. However, performance on par with high-end gaming desktops comes at a cost: the Raider weighs over six pounds, doesn’t fit in most backpacks, and quickly runs out of battery. If you need a (semi) portable workstation desktop, the Raider is unmatched, but it is undeniably a product laser-built for its niche.

Intel’s 12th-gen H-series processors are the best that you can get in a gaming laptop, and the Core i9-12900HK really shows it off. It’s a 45W CPU that can go way farther, especially since it’s unlocked for overclocking. From our testing, we’ve seen in every benchmark that it outperforms the competition. It’s worth keeping in mind, of course, that it’s also the newest thing. It comes out on par with Apple’s M1 Max in benchmarks, so when we get an M2 Max at some point, it will obviously beat this. That’s how these things work; it’s back and forth. AMD also hasn’t started offering its Ryzen 6000 H-series laptops for review yet. But then again, you can’t play the same games on a Mac that you can on Windows. That’s why it makes it easy to say that this is absolutely the best gaming CPU right now. The only competitor is AMD. Right now, Intel gets to just be king of the hill, especially when it comes to gaming. For creator applications, there’s still a whole family of 45W Alder Lake CPUs to choose from, and from what we’ve seen, Intel 12th-gen is a winner.

The MSI Raider GE76 is an absolute beast of a gaming laptop, packed with the most powerful hardware you can get, and none of it is constrained in any way. You won't have to compromise on performance just because you got a laptop. However, it is extremely heavy, and is bundled with Norton Antivirus for some reason, which sits oddly with its premium price tag.

MSI has unleashed the beast and I couldn’t be happier. The company gave me everything I want in a gaming laptop –– power and more power. The MSI GE76 Raider tore through nearly everything we threw at it thanks to the latest 12th Gen Intel processor and Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti GPU. And despite its hefty weight, it looks good doing it. But the Raider is more than brute force, it’s wicked fast too, serving up one of the faster transfer rates I’ve seen in awhile. However, for $4,199, I would have liked the display to be brighter and more vivid. And if that’s important to you, I’d suggest checking out the new $4,799 Alienware X17. But if you’re looking for power with a surprising amount of endurance, the MSI GE76 Raider is the clear choice.

The display in the MSi GE76 Raider is also perfectly suited to its audience. It doesn’t get particularly bright and its resolution isn’t high, but that buttery smooth 360Hz refresh rate results is ultra-smooth animations and the lowest possible latency, without having to deal with any visual artifacts, and with vibrant colors and excellent viewing angles to boot. The large display and 1080p resolution mean you won’t have to enable display scaling in Windows either. There’s really a lot to like with the Intel Alder Lake-H powered MSI GE76 Raider. In addition to offering killer performance with virtually any type of workload, from gaming to content creation, it is attractive and well-mannered. The Intel Core i9-12900HK and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU are a perfect match that offer top-end performance across the board, in a leading edge platform with all of the latest IO and connectivity options. If you’ve got the budget for a flagship machine like this, we have no problem strongly recommending the MSI GE76 Raider. This machine is a beast.
