Reviews for the MSI Titan GT77 12UHS
After a two-year hiatus, the MSI Titan GT77 signifies the company resurrecting its iconic flagship laptop lineup. The Titan GT77 is powered by the Core i9-12900HX, a 175 W RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU, and other niceties including plenty of NVMe storage, DDR5-4800 RAM, and a highly tactile Cherry MX mechanical keyboard — almost everything that enthusiast gamers aspire for. The Titan GT77 is a covetable desktop replacement indeed, but it is not without certain shortcomings.

Screen quality is decent but as laptop that begs to be used as a multimedia professional’s desktop replacement, the 4K 120hz screen doesn’t have the best colors which would work against it for those designing for color accurate usage. For anything else, its definitely a usable screen and its resolution allows it to be quite flexible as we scale from 1080p to 1440p and max out at 4K all at 120hz. As this is an engineering unit, I’m trying to cut back on talking about thermals but I am quite sure this is close to final if not retail ready so the cooling is indeed quite decent but just audible. Another thing worth noting here is the build quality on the body which is good but still not the best plastic when it comes to feel and at this price range, I don’t some sort of smooth plastic housing my laptop. And as mentioned, there is the matter of price. Php325,000+ or just over $6000. You surely are paying for performance here and you absolutely will get it but depending on how willing yo are to carry that weight around, you’re also paying for a 5KG portable soluiton. While I can lug that around no problem, I’ve seen more petite women carry the GT80 TITAN before because they need the power for work. With many laptops offering nearly 5 times the performance of that older model, the MSI GT77 TITAN’s appeal is easily diminished leaving the MSI GT77 TITAN a very niche solution.

For Rs 4,99,990, I really cannot recommend buying the MSI Titan GT77 12UHS. There are various configuration options offered by the company, and depending on availability, you can save some money by opting for lesser RAM and/or storage and eventually upgrade down the line. But even so, the asking price is more than enough to build a rock-solid gaming desktop, with all the necessary peripherals. In fact, you will still end up saving enough money for a powerful mainstream gaming laptop. Having said that, the Titan GT77 12UHS is truly the fastest and the most powerful gaming laptop that I tested in 2022. No other laptop can match the performance of this beast by a mile. If money is not of any concern to you, then this is the best desktop replacement.

There is simply no denying the fact that the MSI Titan GT77 is a laptop that not many of us can afford. Moreover, the performance that this machine is capable of has some very special use case scenarios – clearly, not many people require this raw horsepower. So who is the Titan GT77 meant for? Well, we believe that it is meant for high-functioning content creators, gamers, ML engineers, data scientists and game developers who are constantly on the move and need a proper desktop replacement to carry around with them. We think we are correct when we say that the MSI Titan GT77 is more powerful than most desktop computers in India, even serious gaming desktops. Sure, there are some shortcomings, but they are few and far between. We wish the display had FreeSync or G-Sync, and some form of HDR support; we wish MSI used a better webcam. However, once you experience that powerful combination of the i9-12900HX and RTX 3080Ti, in sync and in perfect harmony, all of the Titan GT77’s minor shortcomings cease to exist. If you’re looking for uncompromised and unbridled performance, and if you can afford to spend Rs 5 Lakhs on a laptop, look no further. This is what laptops for serious professionals and gamers were always meant to be.

The choice of cooler in turn affects the level of power and heat that each laptop can handle and overall the MSI is slower. We were clear about the differences in performance as we were running benchmark tests and had the two laptops sat side-by-side, however we are not so sure that a customer who buys the MSI Titan GT77 will be aware they are leaving performance on the table. The Asus Armoury Crate software tells you what the laptop is doing and how it is performing where by contrast the MSI Center software is vague and unhelpful. This is a large, impressive and fast laptop however we are confident that a more effective cooling system would make it even better.

After all, such power does not come cheap. According to MSI, the Titan GT77 with a similar specification as our test unit (except for a 4K 120Hz display and two fewer SSDs) goes for S$8,099. You could literally build a PC that could run rings around this notebook. But I also understand why some users just prefer a notebook, which does not require as large a footprint to get the job done. If extreme power and mobility (more luggable than portable) is what you’re looking for, then the MSI Titan GT77 (and its Core i9-12900HX) should be worth a consideration. Otherwise, you can also consider the excellent MSI GE76 Raider (and its Core i9-12900HK) too.

For the price of this beast of a gaming laptop, the MSI GT77 Titan has a lot to prove, but despite its size and high-quality RGB lighting, it unfortunately misses the mark. It’s almost painful to watch the screen turn on and be immediately slammed by the sound of four fans kicking in.

Those issues aside, it would be difficult to ask for too much more from a notebook than MSI delivers in the new Titan GT77. The performance under the hood is unequaled. Intel’s new HX platform delivers a substantial uptick in what is possible in a notebook, and while it does that with very high power usage, MSI’s cooling system seems plenty capable to cope with that demand. All of this comes at a titanic price of course; with prices starting at $3099 and reaching over $5000 for better equipped models, if you want this level of performance, you better open your wallet wide.

All laptop companies build machines that tout portability, form and function, and performance, but few take things to a whole new level, only because brands understand that while there are expectations for power and performance, few will pay for that right mix, even if they claim otherwise. Taiwanese hardware maker MSI is telling the world otherwise though, with its new Titan GT77 – one of the most impressive gaming laptops in the market right now.

The MSI GT77 Titan is a phenomenon, delivering near desktop-level performance and expansion capacity with surprising battery life. Our Core i9-12900HX and GeForce RTX 3080 Ti system surpassed the performance of all other gaming laptops we've tested by significant margins. This laptop also breaks ground by supporting four solid-state drives, including one PCIe 5.0 device, and doesn't skimp on creature comforts like a mechanical keyboard. All told, the Titan is the pinnacle of gaming laptop evolution. Massive size and price aside, it's a sure way to experience pre-Olympian deity status.

Review of the MSI TITAN GT77 the most powerful gaming laptop I've reviewed so far. It uses Intels latest I9-12900HX CPU and NVIDIA RTX 3080TI, which runs at 175W. I also compared it to the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 SE, which is the second fastest laptop you can buy today!

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU: High-End laptop graphics card based on the Ampere GA103S chip. At the time of the launch in early 2022, the 3080 Ti is the fastest laptop graphics card on the market.
These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
i9-12900HX: Alder Lake based mobile CPU with 8 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 24 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks from 1.7 to 5 GHz. The CPU does not support vPro and ECC memory.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.3 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) was founded in 1986 in Taiwan. MSI is especially known as a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards for PCs, but also offers computer accessories, complete systems, motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktop PCs, monitors and other components. However, the Microstar brand name in Germany belongs to the Medion company. MSI is known for its gaming products and has developed a wide range of gaming laptops and desktop PCs. The company is also active in workstations, servers and industrial automation. MSI has offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
82.66%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
