The Acer Predator Triton 500 SE isn’t a bad gaming laptop, and the RTX 3080 Ti model I tested has powerful hardware for the price. But it’s still not worth the price premium, especially with how loud the fans are, especially with new graphics cards coming soon, and especially when the RTX 3070 Ti laptops get you 80 percent of the performance for almost $1,000 less. However, with Nvidia’s new 40-series GPUs on the horizon, the pricing for many gaming laptops equipped with 30-series GPUs may cool down significantly.

Like I said, there are always other tiers to choose from. If you just play the occasional game after work, you probably won’t want to spend this much money on a gaming laptop. On the other hand, there are enthusiast tiers as well. The Predator 500 SE offers the most powerful components you can get in a gaming laptop, all while fitting into a slim and light chassis.

The Acer Predator Triton 500 SE is a well-designed, elegantly styled gaming laptop that also makes for a solid work laptop or content creator laptop. It fits in at the office as well as at home in your gaming area. The potent Intel Core i9 CPU and Nvidia's top-of-the-line 3080Ti GPU grant this stylish gaming laptop all the power it requires to vanquish not only all your gamer enemies, but allows you to edit photos or videos, and knock out those expense reports too. Though the Predator feels lighter and looks smaller than you would expect, once you pop it open and are introduced to the 16-inch, 16:10 aspect ratio, 240Hz display, you will find yourself totally immersed in whatever you’re doing. I absolutely recommend the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE for those secret gamers who like to accomplish a little bit of everything during their day.

The Predator Triton 500 SE tries to do it all, and it delivers on every front. Its flagship processor is a best-in-class performer, its 1600p display is fast and vivid, and its body is thin and relatively light. For $2,999, this laptop offers everything you’d expect from such a premium product. This is not a laptop made with the best performance per dollar in mind—it’s the best performance possible in a small body, and its steep price tag is worth it if you need the best laptop money can buy. The Triton 500 SE doesn’t sacrifice beauty or a good laptop experience for raw framerates, meaning you can enjoy incredible gaming on the go without having your pack weighed down by a bulky PC.

If anything, the Triton 500 SE proves that Acer is doing more than just chasing gaming gimmicks. After being known for producing cheap and unsophisticated laptops for years, it’s nice to see that Acer can make a refined gaming notebook without any unnecessary bling.

It’s true that the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE is a step behind competing gaming laptops with higher-wattage RTX 3080 Ti GPUs, namely the MSI GE76 Raider and Razer Blade 17. These competing models, however, cost $1,000 or more than the Predator Triton 500 SE, making it a great value at its price of $3,000. The Triton extends its value and versatility by using a 16-inch, 16:10 display. The MSI and Razer models feature larger, 17.3-inch displays that make them more likely to stay anchored to a desk than as an everyday laptop. While the Triton is certainly not the most compact laptop, it remains fairly portable while providing ample screen real estate that won’t cramp your style or multitasking ways. It’s overqualified to be a productivity laptop that moonlights as a gaming system, but a strong argument can be made that it delivers great value as a gaming laptop that can also be used at school or in the office.

The Acer Predator Triton 500 SE is a world-class 16-inch gaming laptop, with extremely fast frame rates and a handsome high-refresh screen to show them off. But it costs $600 more than the MSI Vector GP66 and roughly $1,000 more than the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro Gen 7 without significantly outperforming them. It earns a thumbs up, but falls short of Editors' Choice consideration.

Review of the 2022 Acer Triton 500 SE. Acer's best looking gaming laptop. It's not perfect but it's much more refined compared to the previous model. This model I reviewed comes with an I9-12900H and a RTX 3080TI.

16.00":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
