Acer Predator Triton 500 SE: Without the ability to upgrade it, a gaming laptop is only half as good
A powerful performance, a great display with 240 Hz, and relatively slim - what more could a gamer's heart wish for? But to offer all that, Acer makes one large compromise with the Predator Triton 500 SE, sacrificing the ability to upgrade it. That should really be a no-go for a gaming laptop.

Mobility and performance - to combine these two aspects is the primary task of the laptop manufacturers. But often one cannot be achieved without making some compromises in the other.

The Acer Predator Triton 500 SE, which is a rather slim gaming laptop, manages to combine the two aspects fairly well in one device. Although the performance is not the absolute best, it is still excellent. And the mobility is also impressive for a 16-inch system with a Core i7-12700H and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.

The problem is that Acer manages to accomplish this by accepting compromises in other places. The construction inside and lack of upgrade options should be mentioned particularly here, since the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE cannot be upgraded at all. The working memory? All of it is soldered in! The SSD? An M.2-2280 card, but it is placed inaccessibly on the other side of the motherboard.

So while the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (available from Amazon, affiliate link) receives a "good" evaluation due to its many good characteristics in our detailed review, compared to the competitors, it is only future proof to a very limited extent. The fact that one is limited to 16 GB in the long run in a 3000-Euro (~$3154) device is really an absolute no-go, and an SSD with a capacity of one Terrabyte can nowadays also fill up quickly with a large collection of games.
