So why wouldn't you opt for this for your next laptop upgrade? Well, the price is clearly too much for a lot of people – the best components cost the most money, and the amount of power that's available here is way more than you'll need if you're simply writing out essays and reports, doing some light emailing, watching movies and so on. This is strictly for serious gamers and video editors with a healthy bank balance. Check the widgets embedded on this page for the latest pricing on the Razer Blade 17, but at the time of writing you can pick up this impressive laptop in the configuration that we reviewed for around £4,300 or $4,000. Now, you can get a pretty decent car for that price, so it's a question of just how much you're willing to spend to get the best performance you can currently squeeze into a laptop chassis. Every laptop is a compromise between performance, size, battery life, price and various other considerations, and it's clear where Razer has and hasn't compromised here.

The Razer Blade 17 has a few small disappointments regarding battery life, but it more than makes up for it by being an absolute powerhouse for PC gamers and creatives alike. Whether you're going to be playing games or making them, this is a machine that can handle anything you throw at it, all while keeping its cool and fan noise at a minimum.

Touching on the last year-to-year change that you might frequently use, Razer’s 1080p Windows Hello webcam has received some noticeable improvements. While it still produces a grainy image that struggles with exposure, the color accuracy, white balance, and detail are good enough to rely on in a pinch. It’s a noticeable improvement over the 720p cameras that Razer previously used, but it’s relative. Most laptop webcams are still bad, but this one’s much less bad than before. Still, you may just want to get a better webcam if you live in Zoom during the workday. A buying decision for a big, expensive gaming laptop usually weighs heavily on how powerful it is and how much it costs. But if your list of criteria also includes a laptop with an appealing and thin design, a stellar keyboard and trackpad, alongside a bunch of power, the Blade 17 is one of a few options out there at all to meet your needs. And thankfully, this year’s model is a particularly good, if still quite expensive, one.
