MSI introduced the Claw A8 (Notebookcheck review) many months ago as its first gaming handheld powered by an AMD APU. To be specific, it packs the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, which makes it a proper competitor to the Asus Xbox ROG Ally X and the upper-end Legion Go 2. Now, although MSI's offering has been available for a while, it still isn't available to buy in the US.
It may be that its US debut is coming shortly, however, as the gaming handheld is now listed on Newegg. While it's unclear whether the listed price is a placeholder or not, it's lower than the launch price of the Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme.
To be specific, the MSI Claw A8 with a 1 TB SSD is currently (December 15, 2025) listed at $1,149, whereas the Z2 Extreme Legion Go 2 with the same amount of storage launched with a $1,349.99 price tag. Of course, Lenovo's offering has the upper hand in terms of memory, but $200 for an additional 8 GB of RAM may not sound worth it to many. It's also worth noting that these prices are already way above the last-gen gaming handhelds.
Getting back to the listed Claw A8 on Newegg, its core specs are the same as the models available in other regions. That includes the same 80 Wh battery, a 22 by 80 M.2 SSD (1 TB Samsung SSD 9100 curr. $175.99 on Amazon.com), an 8-inch 120 Hz display with VRR, and WiFi 7. Although there's still no word on when the system will become available to purchase, as it's already listed, MSI is expected to formally launch it in the US soon.
