Launched in summer 2024, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x 14 Gen 9 was among the first Windows laptops with the Snapdragon X Elite SoC. Unfortunately, due to the compatibility issues and the relatively high asking price of the laptop, the notebook only managed to snag a “good” rating of 86%.
Fast forward to today and the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x Gen 9 has now become a pretty compelling value thanks to the currently reduced price of just $798.99, a historic low for the laptop. This is a great price for the Yoga Slim 7x, as the Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-78-100) is plenty powerful for productivity tasks, the 90 Hz OLED display is a joy to look at, and the notebook lasts a good while on a single charge.
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x Gen 9 (14 Snapdragon) has excellent battery life
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x on sale features a Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-78-100) alongside 16 GB of non-expandable memory, 1 TB of storage, and a 14.5-inch 90 Hz OLED panel. The notebook weighs only 1.28 kg (2.82 lbs) and is powered by a fairly large 70 Wh battery.
Thankfully, as shown by our review, the Yoga Slim 7x is a pretty capable multimedia laptop. For starters, the 14.5-inch OLED display boasts a crisp resolution of 2944x1840, an infinite contrast ratio, and 97%/100% DCI-P3/sRGB coverage. The screen also gets plenty bright in both SDR and HDR with values reaching 500 nits and 1,000 nits, respectively. Moreover, the display comes pre-calibrated and doesn’t need any user input.
Moving to performance, the Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-78-100) is fast enough for routine work like browsing the net, editing office documents, etc. However, apps that aren’t optimized and/or don’t play well with the emulation layer will see performance regressions. This is currently the biggest drawback of going with a Snapdragon X Elite-based machine vs x86 options from Intel and AMD. So, if you don’t plan to use some highly specialized applications, the Yoga Slim 7x should do the job.
Talking about drawbacks, Lenovo has only outfitted the Yoga Slim 7x with three USB 4 ports. While the company does include a dongle in the box that has necessary connectors like a 3.5 mm, users who need an ethernet jack or an SD-card reader will need to buy a separate USB-C hub from Amazon.
Finally, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x Gen 9 lasts a long time. A single charge was enough to see the laptop last 15 hours in our WLAN test.
All in all, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x Gen 9 (14 Snapdragon) nails the fundamentals like build quality, display, performance, and battery life. For users who won’t be impacted by the somewhat iffy Snapdragon X Elite compatibility, the Yoga Slim 7x for $798.99 is worth looking into.
