Case - Stable Windows convertible from Lenovo
Since the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 doesn't differ from its predecessor in terms of look and feel, we point you here to the review of the Lenovo ThinkPad X390 Yoga for a detailed description of the case.
Connectivity - ThinkPad X13 Yoga offers Thunderbolt 3
The connectivity is also identical to that of the ThinkPad X390 Yoga.
SD card reader
MicroSD cards can fit completely into the ThinkPad X13 Yoga's memory card reader; the latter achieves speeds of 82.3 MB/s for copying and 88.1 MB/s for reading data with our reference memory card, the Toshiba Exceria Pro M501 64 GB UHS-II. This puts the X13 Yoga at the same level as its predecessor model.

Communication
The ThinkPad X13 Yoga can connect wirelessly via NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, and Wi-Fi 6. With our Netgear Nighthawk AX12 reference router, the Windows convertible reaches 896 Mb/s for receiving and 646 Mb/s for sending data. This results in a slight improvement over the X390 Yoga, but the X13's speeds are below average compared to other Wi-Fi 6 devices.
Lenovo also offers the ThinkPad X13 Yoga with an optional LTE module.
Webcam
The ThinkPad X13 Yoga uses a low-resolution 0.9 MP webcam. Even in good lighting conditions, it delivers a somewhat blurred image and captures colors much paler than they should be.
Lenovo also offers the X13 Yoga with an optional infrared camera that is suitable for face recognition with Windows Hello.

Security
Lenovo integrates many security features into the ThinkPad X13 Yoga. In this way, there's a fast fingerprint scanner located next to the touchpad, and the webcam can be secured with a mechanical shutter. A TPM 2.0 chip is included as well as a slot for a cable lock. Lenovo's Privacy Guard is also optionally available, which we took a closer look at with the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Accessories
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga also comes with the ThinkPad Pen Pro, which can be stored in a slot in the front right corner of the laptop.
Maintenance
Warranty
Lenovo grants buyers a 36-month warranty period. This can be extended to up to 5 years for an additional charge.
Input devices - Keyboard with pleasing backlighting
A detailed description of the input devices can be found in the review of the Lenovo ThinkPad X390 Yoga. The X13 Yoga tested here is additionally equipped with a two-stage keyboard backlight that doesn't dazzle and illuminates all keys very evenly.
Display - Bright Full HD touchscreen
The ThinkPad X13 Yoga's screen consists of a 13.3-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The maximum brightness with the display installed here is 400 cd/m², which is significantly higher than that of the ThinkPad X390 Yoga we reviewed. In our test field, only the Acer Spin 5 surpasses this value. Moreover, Lenovo has forgone the use of PWM.
In addition to the display variant present here, Lenovo also offers a Full HD IPS panel with 300 cd/m² of brightness. There's also a Full HD IPS panel with Privacy Guard and 500 cd/m² as well as a 4K UHD OLED panel with Dolby Vision and 400 cd/m².

The panel used here offers a very good contrast ratio of 2,506:1 and an equally good black level of 0.16 cd/m². The color-space coverage is also very good at 98.1% (sRGB) and 67.2% (AdobeRGB).
Out of the box, the CalMAN analysis shows a rather small Delta E 2000 deviation for the display. However, this can be further improved by calibration. The corresponding ICC file can be downloaded in the window located at the top, to the right of the display's brightness distribution graph.

Performance - Comet Lake adds no value
Lenovo is targeting business users with the ThinkPad X13 Yoga and offers the Windows convertible with the corresponding hardware. In addition to the configuration present here, the X13 Yoga is also available with the Intel Core i5-10210U and different memory configurations. In comparison to the ThinkPad X390 Yoga, the fundamental difference is the generation of the installed Intel CPUs.
Processor
The Intel Core i7-10510U installed here is a quad-core processor with clock rates between 1.8 and 4.8 GHz. How long high clock speeds can be maintained depends largely on the cooling system. In the ThinkPad X13 Yoga, the CPU can maintain its performance evenly over a longer period of time, but the level reached is clearly below the Core i7-10510U's capabilities.
The ThinkPad X13 Yoga also scores below average in the individual CPU performance tests. The values achieved are also not sufficient to reach the performance of the Intel Core i7-8565U in the ThinkPad X390 Yoga.

Emissions - Noticeable coil whine
Noise emissions
The fans of the X13 Yoga are rarely heard in daily use. When they start, a very quiet and even noise can be heard. While the fan noise isn't bothersome in everyday use, a slight coil whine is noticeable. This happens mostly when accessing the storage drive.

Temperature
Our measurements show that the ThinkPad X13 Yoga reaches surface temperatures of up to 65 °C (~149 °F). The warmest point is located at the center of the bottom's rear section and becomes hidden when you fold the laptop into tablet mode. However, if the convertible is placed on the lap like a laptop, the high temperatures could be bothersome.
During our stress test, the temperatures inside the ThinkPad X13 Yoga increased up to 98 °C (~208 °F). For a short time, the clock rates dropped well below the base clock speed of 1.8 GHz and could only be maintained at an average of 1.6 GHz until the end of the test. Nevertheless, users don't have to expect limitations in everyday use due to excessively high temperatures.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 43.8 °C / 111 F, compared to the average of 34.3 °C / 94 F, ranging from 21.2 to 62.5 °C for the class Office.
(-) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 65 °C / 149 F, compared to the average of 36.8 °C / 98 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 27.3 °C / 81 F, compared to the device average of 29.5 °C / 85 F.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 25.6 °C / 78.1 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(±) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 27.6 °C / 81.7 F (+2 °C / 3.6 F).
Speakers
The speakers in the ThinkPad X13 Yoga offer medium volume and a sound spectrum with pronounced mids. This makes them suitable for audio playback in quiet environments.

Energy management - X13 Yoga comes with fast-charging feature
Energy consumption
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga is slightly more energy-efficient than its predecessor, the X390 Yoga. This applies especially to the average measurements, since the maximum power consumption is almost at the same level. Compared to the competition we chose, the X13 Yoga can place itself in the midfield.
The included power adapter offers an output of 65 watts and has, therefore, sufficient capacity to guarantee a reliable power supply.

Battery life
In our practical WLAN test, the X13 Yoga reaches a runtime of 8:11 hours. As a result, it reaches the average value of other convertibles tested by us, but it can't assert itself over our test field.
The X13 Yoga can also use the fast-charging function via the included 65-watt power adapter, which fully recharges the device after about 1.5 hours.

Pros
Cons
Verdict - Nothing new with Comet Lake
With the ThinkPad X13 Yoga, Lenovo delivers a hardware upgrade to Intel's latest generation of processors. However, this doesn't result in a significant performance increase, and the Intel Core i7-10510U, which is actually more energy-efficient, doesn't have a positive effect on the battery life either. Nevertheless, the Windows convertible remains a solid device with high-quality workmanship that can be used well in everyday life.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga is practically identical to the 390 Yoga, but this is also true in terms of performance.
For prospective buyers, this ultimately raises the question of whether they should rather invest their money in the predecessor model. In the end, it offers everything that is also available in the new edition, including the ThinkPad Pen Pro, which comes in the box. Depending on the price, you can save yourself a couple of Euros.
