The tipster Connor (@OreXda) has shared an interesting financial forecast report about the Korean electronics component manufacturer Fine M-Tec. The third-party report (so not directly from the company itself) has forecast that the firm should enjoy considerable growth thanks to expansion and involvement in “secondary battery business” and “external hinges”. The leaker has come to the opinion that this could mean a foldable Nintendo Switch 2 is on the cards, but the arrival to this conclusion has taken several leaps.
Despite many believing the Nintendo Switch 2 release date could fall in 2024, meaning production plans will already be quite advanced, few would expect the Big N to churn out a Switch successor in foldable form akin to the DS handheld. The machine-translated words that Connor has jumped on in the report (keeping in mind the original article is an external forecast) are “the portable foldable game console of a global game company”. Nintendo itself is not mentioned by name here, so of course this could be another company that might have plans for creating a foldable device, like Sony or Tencent.
In addition to this, Connor also states that Nintendo might release a whole raft of new games at the end of 2023, with the Switch 2 possibly being revealed at E3 in the middle of 2024, despite the last two events having been cancelled. He also figures that a foldable Switch 2 might come with a bigger battery and will offer “better performance than its predecessor”, which would be expected from any next-generation console so is hardly surprising news. It’s certainly pinch-of-salt time, but Nintendo does have a history of creating incredible foldable handheld consoles, so it’s not completely unimaginable.
