Wild Nintendo Switch 2 announcement speculation sparked by OG Switch preview trailer disappearance from YouTube
Just as rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 were beginning to die down a little after the recent Gamescom hubbub, a move by the Big N itself (or at least, Nintendo of America) has caused a significant flurry of excitement on social media. As shared by u/CarbVan on Reddit, Nintendo has decided to pull the YouTube video for the OG Switch preview trailer, which is now classified as a private video. While many simply believe this could be down to a music licensing issue, others have leapt to the more optimistic conclusion of an incoming Switch 2 announcement.
Fortunately, something like the Nintendo Switch 2 encourages a lot of internet detective work from fans, so it has been pointed out that even though the OG Switch YouTube clip is now private, it is still available to view on X on the @NintendoAmerica account – with its soundtrack intact. Others have been quick to mention the date too; the preview clip for the original Switch was made public on October 20, 2016, leading some to opine that a Switch 2 announcement on October 20, 2023 (Friday) could be in the works.
Interestingly, there are a couple of other sparks to add to this particular speculation: Not only has the Express website claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 “could be unveiled as early as this week” (from a post on October 13) but a popular X user with nearly 120,000 followers has simply posted “Switch 2 trailer coming” as if it is a fact. A more reasoned opinion from known Nintendo commenter Necrolipe has focused on the music license angle, but even he has teased the potential for some sort of imminent Nintendo Switch 2 news by stating "or..." at the end of the relevant post.
