Specific Nintendo Switch 2 release date and price rumor for two console models surfaces
The Nintendo Switch 2 release date will fall on September 24, 2024 according to a new rumor that has been recently shared on ResetEra. There have been numerous reports about the release date for the next-generation Switch, with many falling in the second half of next year. However, this appears to be the first time that a specific date is mentioned, with September 24, 2024 being a Tuesday. In addition to this, a back-up Switch 2 release date is also given, which is purportedly November 3, 2024. This latter date is a Sunday, so a pinch of salt is definitely required for this particular leak.
As well as offering up two dates, the same source, who has reportedly collaborated with the well-known gaming informer “The Snitch” in the past, also claims there will be two models: A standard model and a digital Nintendo Switch 2. It seems this source somehow has friends in high places at Nintendo, because there are even prices given, although a later update includes the safety clause of “price point is still subject to change”. Anyway, the digital Switch 2 will apparently cost US$400 while the standard console will cost US$449. There has been no mention of OLED use or an OLED model, which ties in with previous rumors that the Switch 2 will come with an LCD panel.
One thing that has had commenters puzzled was the claim that the Nintendo Switch 2 has the internal codename “NG”. This actually seems to come from a statement made by Activision’s CFO, who called the Switch successor the “NG Switch”, with “NG” simply standing for “Next Generation”. Other names have been put forward in the past, including “Switch Forward”, “NX2”, “Hawk”, and more, but “NG” has supposedly already been dismissed as a codename candidate by some with apparent knowledge in the matter. A later update from the same source has stated that “NG” is allegedly a Switch 2 codename used for developers rather than internally, and there is also a quick note made claiming AR features are coming to the Switch successor.
