Leak: HMD Asha 505 brings back bygone smartphone era with 5-inch display and no punch hole

While HMD Global is said to be developing a compact feature phone with 3.5-inch touchscreen called HMD Fame, the company is also reportedly developing the HMD Asha 505, a slightly larger but presumably similarly affordable smartphone. According to the latest information from the leaker @smashx_60, the hardware is significantly simpler than that of, say, the HMD Skyline ($399 on Amazon).
The device has a somewhat old-fashioned design with a flat bezel, a colorful back panel, a tiny, round camera module with just one camera, and particularly wide bezels above and below the screen. This allows HMD Global to at least include the front-facing speaker and the 5-megapixel selfie camera without having to resort to a punch hole or a notch. The 5-inch touchscreen is based on an IPS panel with 720p resolution, making the display barely larger than the screen of the 2014 Apple iPhone 6.
The HMD Asha 505 uses an unspecified octa-core processor, paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of flash storage. To achieve decent performance despite the limited RAM, HMD Global is reportedly relying on Android 14 Go Edition. An 8-megapixel main camera, a 3,000 mAh battery, a dual-SIM slot, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a hotspot feature round out the specs of this entry-level smartphone. The leaker has not yet been able to uncover any details regarding the launch date or price of the HMD Asha 505.
