The IKEA SYMFONISK Shelf Wi-Fi Speaker is currently on offer in the UK and Australia. The product is a result of the partnership between Sonos and IKEA, with a second-generation model of the device released earlier this year.
In the UK, the latest version of the SYMFONISK speaker is currently selling for £84 (~US$103) to members of IKEA Family, the company’s free-to-join loyalty scheme. The gadget retails typically for £99 (~US$121) and is discounted until July 17, or while stocks last.
In Australia, the original model is selling for AU$139 (~US$97); an AU$60 (~US$42) discount off the regular price of AU$199 (~US$138). The offer runs until August 31 or until the supply runs out. The second-generation speaker is not currently available in the country.
There are few differences between the two generations of devices. According to Tweakers, IKEA has used a faster processor in the updated gadget, alongside additional memory. Plus, the newer model consumes less energy in standby mode. A longer power cable is provided with the latest SYMFONISK speaker, and the button layout has been altered.
Both devices are compatible with IKEA Home Smart, allowing you to control them through this or the Sonos app. Alternatively, you can cast to the device using Apple AirPlay 2, and you can achieve stereo sound if you buy two of the speakers. The audio device can be mounted on the wall, vertically or horizontally as a shelf, on a hook or rested on a surface. Recent rumors suggest a wireless charging shelf for the product could soon be available.
