A report from Mark Gurman for Bloomberg suggests that Apple will release a new HomePod next year. The new HomePod, code-named B620, will have the same S8 chip used to power the next generation of Apple Watches. This processor is expected to have identical specifications to the S7 and S6 variants; it is currently unclear how its performance could differ from the A8 chip used for the first HomePod.
Size-wise, it will be closer to the original HomePod, rather than the smaller size of the current HomePod mini. The device is also slated to have a similar audio performance to the older gadget. New features of the home hub and speaker detailed in the report include an updated display on top of the device. Rumors also indicate that the new HomePod could have multi-touch functionality for gesture control.
In an older report, Gurman suggested that Apple was working on a combined Apple TV and HomePod speaker device. The proposed product would include a camera, enabling video conferencing when connected to a TV. Plus, the gadget would have other smart home features. However, Gurman did not mention this potential hybrid device in their latest update.
Instead, Gurman indicates a new Apple TV is on the way, code-named J255, using an A14 chip. The new processor provides an extra gigabyte of RAM compared to the A12 chip used in the 2021 model, which could enhance the gaming experience. The TV is likely to launch late this year or early next year.
