According to a new report, Huawei is rumoured to be entering the compact flagship soon to rival recent releases by Apple, Lenovo, RedMagic and Xiaomi, among others. Backed by an 8.8-inch OLED display, Huawei's alternative will target those looking for a lightweight and portable tablet rather than gamers.

An increasing number of OEMs have stepped into the world of the compact tablet lately. Previously the pursuit of Apple and Lenovo, RedMagic and Xiaomi have now offered alternatives that fall below 9-inches diagonally. According to Digital Chat Station, Huawei could soon be getting in on the act too.

Writing on Weibo, the leaker asserts that Huawei is developing a tablet that packages an 8.8-inch OLED display within a thin and light housing. Allegedly considered a flagship, the unnamed tablet is also rumoured to adopt Huawei's Kirin 9 series platform, just like the recently announced Pura 80 Ultra that leverages the Kirin 9020.

In other words, Huawei's compact flagship tablet will likely trail its rivals on performance. Nonetheless, Huawei is not expected to position its future 8.8-inch tablet for gamers, though. Instead, Digital Chat Station believes that the company will target those who are after a lightweight and portable tablet first and foremost. Unfortunately, other details remain unknown for now, including a release date.
