Market disruptor. Huawei wants to prove that you don't need to spend $1500 or more for a decently specced XPS 13 or MacBook Pro. The MateBook X Pro attempts to give it all with an attractively thin aluminum design, 3:2 touchscreen, discrete Nvidia graphics, Thunderbolt 3, and an Intel U class CPU for less than what major competitors are currently offering.
Source: PC Mag

The only real drawback to the MateBook X Pro, apart from its contentious webcam, is its price. When Huawei first launched the laptop, its $1,499 price tag was particularly compelling. Two years later, with minimal upgrades, it's difficult to see where the extra money is going compared to other Windows 10 ultraportables. Nevertheless, if you can stomach paying a little more, and especially if you are already in the Huawei device world via a smartphone, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is a solid performer. It will be a while until it launches in the U.S. so we can benchmark it properly, but if you're willing to step outside the mainstream it should keep you satisfied.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro is a speedy machine with a gorgeous display, comfortable keyboard and solid battery life. Huawei’s Matebook X Pro offers competent performance. Its true value is, really, value: For just under $1,500, Huawei offers a laptop with a 3K display, pairing it with a decent discrete graphics processor for a bit more oomph. Dell’s XPS series remains on top, however, at least from a general performance standpoint. The new Dell XPS 13 (9370) remains our Editors’ Choice within the category.

A great 14-inch lightweight clamshell laptop, the Huawei MateBook X Pro offers a combo of first-rate display and a little oomph that suits it for basic graphics work. But an absurd placement in the keyboard renders the webcam close to useless.

Every so often you get to see a laptop and say wow and Huawei has achieved that with the MateBook X Pro. They chiseled a gorgeous piece of machinery here. Near edge to edge 3K display is unseen and especially on its close to 14” frame. It’s great for viewing content or getting some work done. Its lightweight and is qualified to give you impressive battery life pushing around 15 hours on a good day. Webcam isn’t all that great and is hidden and can stay there. For what it’s worth you expect this laptop to be hefty on the price tag but for what you are getting its in a nice ballpark figure. The Core i5 version runs for $1,199 while the Core i7 will cost you $300 more at $1,499. Funny thing is depending where you look either model is usually out of stock as they flip in and out of inventory. MateBook X Pro is at the top of the Ultrabook pile and its for good reason.

With all of these features, you’d expect the MateBook X Pro to be competitively priced against a Dell XPS 13 or Microsoft Surface Pro, but that’s the real kicker. The Huawei MateBook X Pro is priced hundreds of dollars less than most of the competition, while providing a superior product to most. The value here is undeniable, even though it’s hard to think of a $1500 laptop as a value product. The base model with a Core i5-8250U, 8 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD is just $1200, but unlike most laptops, the higher end model is an even better deal. For just $300 more, you bump the CPU up to a Core i7-8550U, double the RAM to 16 GB, double the SSD to 512 GB, and add in the GeForce MX150 GPU. That’s an impressive upgrade for not much more money.

It’s a novel idea that certainly eliminates any need for a Post-it to cover the camera, but it also means that whoever you’re chatting with will get a good look up your nose much like the XPS 13. This notebook seems aimed at those Windows users who want the highest-quality hardware on the market, but wouldn’t be caught dead using a piece of Apple hardware. Huawei may not be the first name you think of when shopping for a top-end laptop, but from what I’ve seen so far, the MateBook Pro X is a stunning piece of kit. Featuring a wonderfully premium design, the X Pro easily gives the XPS 13 and MacBook Pro a run for their money when it comes to looks.

With a stunning trim-bezel screen, heaps of power on tap, ample numbers of ports, and a well-considered finish throughout, there's a lot to like about Huawei's top-spec laptop. The only standout downside, from what we suspect, is that battery life will be on the light side if you want the full bells-and-whistles model.

A screen among the best in the ultraportable arena makes Huawei's 13.9-inch MateBook X Pro a tempting Windows ultralight alternative to Apple's MacBook Pro, but the 2019 model might not be the bargain the 2018 edition was.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro (2019) is an otherwise excellent ultrabook that’s undermined by a poor battery. Unless you’re going to be working somewhere with mains power close by, or you’re OK with lugging around a portable battery pack, I’d approach this MacBook Air alternative with caution.

Announced at Mobile World Congress this year, Huawei's new MateBook X Pro includes the same 91% screen-to-body ratio that it had last year, along with a 13.9-inch 3,000x2,000 display. The internals have been upgraded, as you'd expect, with Intel's new Whiskey Lake CPUs and Nvidia's GeForce MX250, replacing Kaby Lake R and the MX150.

The MateBook X Pro for 2019 very much looks like the return of the king. This was a great laptop in its former guise and with a few power tweaks, Huawei has made sure that the hardware hasn’t expired.

The new MateBook X Pro is titled the same as last year’s model, so you may have trouble telling them apart if you’re looking to pick one up. In fact, the chassis is almost identical to last year, with the exception of the logo on the top of the device. While the original MateBook X Pro had the Huawei logo embedded into the top of the device alongside the name, the new model removes the logo and leaves the name only. The primary differences between the MateBook X Pro from this year and the model from last year are the internals.

Huawei's MateBook X Pro is a wonderful laptop, just as it was last year. I can say that because there are minimal changes. Last year's model had eighth-generation Intel Core processors from the Kaby Lake family, and this year's has eighth-generation Intel Core processors from the Whiskey Lake family. Last year's had an Nvidia GeForce MX150 with 2GB GDDDR5, and this year's has a GeForce MX250 with 2GB GDDR5.

There's a lot to like about Huawei's 2019 MateBook X Pro, even if I'm not sure this laptop needed to exist. Sure, the company wanted to keep its premium machine updated with the latest and greatest silicon, but the payoff hasn't been huge. That shouldn't dim, however, the shine on one of the best laptops of 2018 receiving a little spit-and-polish for 2019. You can't criticize a company for doing well and then not choosing to reinvent the wheel.

Huawei is probably best known for making smartphones primarily as well as networking equipment, two product lines that are at the center of political and legal controversy. A few years ago, however, Huawei started getting its hands into another related business, that of selling laptops. With a product name like the MateBook X Pro and a distinctly familiar design, there is little doubt whose market share Huawei is after.

I really wanted this to be $600 to -$800 cheaper, I believe that will triple their potential buyers market and give the option to steal some Macbook users over to their platform. That’s really the only barrier for purchase that I can come up with, so if you’re happy with the price then buy one. If that is a barrier for you purchasing, there are plenty of very good options out there for between $1800 – $2600 where you’ll get an exceptionally good laptop still.

The change list isn’t long for the Huawei MateBook X Pro’s 2020 refurbishment. And because of the government’s ban on Huawei, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to buy one in the United States any time soon. Huawei: Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. is a Chinese company founded in 1987 with focus on telecommunications hardware and 170000 employees. In the first quarter of 2016, Huawei had a market share of 8.2% in the smartphone market, making it the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Compared to the same quarter of 2015, Huawei increased its market share by more than 58%.
In 2014, Huawei created the sub brand Honor and offers certain smartphone series under this name. The name Huawei is usually not listed for these products.
There are a lot of reviews on Huawei phones with slightly above average ratings (as of 2016).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce MX150: Pascal GP108 based laptop graphics card and mobile version of the desktop GeForce GT 1030. Offers 384 shader cores and usually 2 GB GDDR5 with a 64 Bit memory bus. Manufactured in 14nm.
NVIDIA GeForce MX250: Successor of the MX150 and still based on the same Pascal GP108 chip (similar to the desktop GT 1030) but with higher clock speeds. Available in two versions, a normal 25 Watt version and a low power version with 10 Watt TDP and reduced performance. The 25 Watt version e.g. offers a 21% higher boost clock than the old MX150 leading to a 5% performance gain.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.

i5-8550U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,150 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
Intel Core i5:

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
i7-8565U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.
Intel Comet Lake:
i5-10210U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced in 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.6 and 4.2 GHz (all 4 cores 3.9 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports DDR4-2666 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default). Compared to the faster i5-10510U, the level 3 cache was reduced from 8 to 6 MB.
