The prodigious leaker Digital Chat Station claims to have heard that the next Huawei foldable is on the way - albeit with the same Kirin 9000S platform linked to the Mate X5. Then again, its successor might be able to stand out with a footprint entirely its own.
It might emerge as a particularly large foldable smartphone in 2024, with a cover screen bigger than that of the Mate X5. At 6.41 inches in diagonal length, the current Huawei flagship is already longer when closed than even the well-proportioned OnePlus Open.
That might be why Digital Chat Station also predicts that the Mate X6 will have a "4,520mAh" battery, a downgrade on the 5,060mAh X5: a compromise that, if accurate, may have been made for the sake of mass reduction.
Otherwise, the "X6" might look much like the X5, albeit with what might be an enlarged take on Huawei's camera hump for premium foldables. The former is also slated to still come in purple vegan leather, although it may also introduce a new "gray glass" option.
