The Mate 60 series consists of the most premium non-foldable smartphones currently sold by Huawei. However, their successors are now said to come with upgrades to rival even the iPhone 16 series in 2024. One of them might also come for the Xiaomi 15 with a smaller screen than usual.

Huawei is now tipped to troll Apple directly by scheduling the Mate 70 unveiling to clash with that of the new iPhone 16 series in September 2024. In the meantime, according to the leaker Smart Pikachu, the OEM is working on its prototypes, some of which apparently have 1-inch main rear cameras.

The same Mate 70 devices might thus incorporate that cutting-edge imaging tech in order to improve on Mate 60 units with periscope zoom and variable aperture lenses. The 1-inch sensor is tipped to be 1 of 3 50MP lenses (as with the P70 series), and just might be the new OmniVision OV50K.

The P60s, the top-end RS version included, also have a premium 6.82-inch OLED display. However, the upcoming 70 line might shake things up with a nod to the compact-screen trend (even though some other companies seem to have given up on it). Going by the precedent set in 2024 thus far, it might have a display of about 6.3 inches in diagonal length this year.
