Huami, the OEM behind the Amazfit brand of wearables, found its way into the top 5 names in the smartwatch market during the first quarter of this year (1Q2020). It was also in the US top 5 in the same terms, and was #1 in some countries, including Spain, Indonesia and India.

IDC's latest report on the smartwatch market shows that Huami, the OEM that makes the Amazfit line of devices, was in the top 5 of smartwatch manufacturers (in terms of shipments and share) globally for 1Q2020. This company posted a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 80.2%, even though this market slumped by 7.1% overall in the same quarter.

Huami also found itself in the top 5 in the US smartwatch market (the largest sub-sector by country) over this quarter for the first time. It also now reports that it had the greatest share of the adult watch market in Spain, Italy, Indonesia and India in 1Q2020.

The company also now reports that its (unaudited) financial results for the quarter just exceeded 1.088 billion yuan (US$153.7 million). Looking ahead, Huami's 2Q2020 also looks good: its premier brand has released some interesting new devices, including the Ares sports-focused watch and the Bip S. In addition, the ultimate fortunes of the Amazfit X may open a new door in the area of flexible tech for this wearables company.
