The Apple Watch Series 3 is now available on Amazon for as low as US$231. This brings it into contention with the Galaxy Gear S3. However, LTE capabilities, superior build quality and tight iOS integration make the Series 3 a solid buy.

While the Huami Amazfit X, with its curved 92-degree panel, finds success on Indiegogo, the Apple Watch Series 3 is now available for as low as US$231. Renewed models of the Series 3 are being sold on Amazon at a twenty percent discount relative to the US$299 launch price for LTE Apple Watch Series 3 models.

Keep in mind that the renewed models here feature LTE, meaning you won't need to keep your iPhone around to avail key Apple Watch functionality like making calls and streaming music.

The Apple Watch Series 3 was the first in the lineup to feature LTE. If you don't need the Apple Watch Series 5's always-on display, you'll get most of the functionality you need here.

At this price point, the Apple Watch Series 3 isn't actually far off from the launch prices for the Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 and the Fitbit Versa 2. Apple Watch Series 3's excellent build quality, tighter iOS integration and LTE capabilities make it an attractive alternative. And at these low prices, value-minded users might actually opt for one.
