Hisense scores a world first by attaining a TÜV Rheinland Privacy by Design Certification for its smart TV OS
Hisense is an OEM probably best known for its smart TVs. Accordingly, it has aimed for even more clout and recognition in the market by becoming the first brand in this space to gain a Privacy by Design Certification from TÜV Rheinland.
This independent device-validation group claims that this badge of approval is based on the ETSI EN 202 645 standard, arrived at through a barrage of "practical" tests of user privacy on products such as smart TVs.
TÜV Rheinland asserts that this includes tests of prevention against unwanted incidents including DDoS attacks; spying using sensors such as cameras; personal data loss, and the hijacking of devices to mine cryptocurrency.
Therefore, Hisense believes that its new certification shows that it "understands" the needs of European consumers looking for new smart-home tech. Accordingly, could be considered the OEM's latest effort to appeal to this region since sponsoring the UEFA EURO 2020/1 soccer championship.
On the other hand, Hisense has yet to specify on which TVs the OS apparently linked to the certification in question ("VIDAA 72671") is or will be available.
