With the C2, Hisense is launching a 4K projector with a particularly vibrant color reproduction. A sound system from JBL is integrated, which should ensure high-quality audio even without a connected sound system.

The C2 is the entry-level model of the C2 series, which includes the much brighter C2 Ultra. The technology as such remains the same, so the C2 also uses a light system consisting of three lasers, which should cover 100 percent of the BT.2020 color space and promise high color accuracy. The brightness is specified at 2,000 ANSI lumens, which is a good value for a laser projector - however, conventional models easily achieve significantly higher values. A contrast ratio of 1,700:1 is advertised.

In contrast to the C2 Ultra, there is no zoom lens, so the projection ratio is fixed at 1.2:1 and an image of between 65 to 300 inches can be projected. Focus adjustment is motorized and keystone correction is automatic - as you would expect in this price range. The 4K resolution is only possible with the help of pixel shifting, i.e. the rapid shifting of pixels; the impact on the viewing experience is likely to depend on both the image material to be displayed and the user's viewing habits - in principle, pixel shifting is an established technology nowadays. However, the technology creates a trade-off between resolution and refresh rate, which doubles to 120 Hz with a 2K resolution. One of the two HDMI inputs supports ALLM, allowing consoles to be connected appropriately. There are two USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet, and a headphone jack, while the built-in JBL sound system has an output of 20 watts.

VIDAA U7.6 is available as the operating system, and content from streaming service providers can be transmitted wirelessly via WiFi; 3D support and AirPlay will be available later with an update. The C2 is already listed for a price of 1,999 euros (US$2206), which is substantially cheaper than the C2 Ultra, which supports a brightness of 3,000 ANSI lumens.

Possible short throw alternative: Buy the Formovie Theater from Amazon
