Garmin releases Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro update to fix system crash bugs
Garmin has now released a new stable update for the Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro and other smartwatches like the Tactix 7 (curr. $879.99 - refurbished on Amazon). In summary, Software Version 18.16 arrives under a month after Garmin began rolling out Software Version 18.14 to the same set of smartwatches; for reference, these other smartwatches include the Enduro 2, Epix 2, MARQ Gen 2 and Quatix 7.
Incidentally, System Software Version 18.16 arrives less than a day after Garmin issued an equivalent up on its Beta Program. Surprisingly, Software Version 18.16 contains fewer changes from its predecessor than Garmin suggests it has included in Beta Version 18.16. Specifically, the company mentions the following improvements for the Fenix 7's latest stable update:
- Fixed issue causing basecamp to fail to recognize the device.
- Fixed issue with maps showing doubly thick lines in some cases.
- Fixed issue with trolling motor pairing sequence.
- Fixed potential increased battery drain after having done an activity with incident detection enabled.
- Fixed potential shutdown on boot.
- Fixed potential shutdown when modifying heart rate zones using Garmin Connect Mobile.
- Improved heart rate zones to allow setting by BPM.
Nonetheless, this represents seven bug fixes and one improvement compared to Software Version 18.14. According to Garmin's forum post, Software Version 18.16 should have already reached 50% of eligible smartwatches. However, it should be possible to skip the company's phased rollout by heading to System Settings, Menu, System, Software update and then selecting 'Check for Updates'. Please see Garmin's forum posts linked below for more details.
