HiSense TV 98S57: 98-inch TV unveiled in China with 264 Hz refresh rate
Earlier this year, HiSense showed off its 98-inch Mini LED TV (98UX) at CES 2024. It came with a peak brightness of 5,000 nits and over 10,000 local dimming zones. The company has now launched a more gaming-centric variant called the HiSense TV 98S57 (98E3N-PRO).
It comes with a 98-inch 4K DLED panel with a refresh rate of 264 Hz, 1,000 nits peak brightness, 384 local dimming zones and covers 95% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. As a result, the HiSense TV 98S57 consumes an eye-watering 450 Watts and weighs 67 kilograms.
Under the hood, it packs an unspecified SoC with 4x Arm Cortex-A73 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, RJ-45 Ethernet, two USB Type-A ports (one USB 3.0, one USB 2.0), two HDMI 2.0 ports, and two HDMI 2.1 ports that cap out at 4K 144 Hz (one with e-arc). This is disappointing as neither video input can take full advantage of the HiSense TV 98S57's high refresh rate.
Like every product launched recently, the HiSense TV 98S57 uses AI to detect the type on content displayed on your screen and adjusts the brightness/contrast/audio accordingly. It even supports voice commands and real-time translation of content. For sound, the TV comes with 2.1 speakers built in.
The HiSense TV 98S57 costs RMB 9,999 (~$1,400) and will be available to purchase only in China on August 7. A global launch seems unlikely as these models are seldom launched overseas. If you're in the market for a 98-inch TV that you can actually buy, consider the Samsung Crystal UHD DU9000 or Sony Pro BRAVIA BZ53L.
