Govee launches new unusual smart plug with integrated light

Govee has launched a new smart home product in the US: the Goveelife Smart Plug Outlet Extender With Night Light. Already available to pre-order at Amazon, this device will be officially released in the near future.

Govee’s new Smart Plug is an 8-in-1 device, with the company suggesting that you could use it to power a laptop, a router, a lamp and your phone simultaneously. Across three sides, there are two smart outlets, four always-on outlets, a USB-C port and a USB-A port. The outlets are spaced at 1.97 inches (~52 mm), which should mean it easily accommodates many plugs. Plus, the device has a built-in RGB light, which can act as a night light, with users offered a choice of 15 lighting effects. 

You can remotely control the smart plug through the Govee Home app, where you can set up timers and schedules. On top of this, it supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. The gadget’s shell has a 5VA Fire Protection Rating, and it also offers surge and overload protection. This product can be fixed in place using the accompanying screw. It measures 3.5 x 6.3 x 1.2 inches (~89.9 x 160 x 31.0 mm) and weighs 3.4 oz (~95 g). 

The Goveelife Smart Plug Outlet Extender with Night Light is now available to pre-order at Amazon US for $32.99. However, some customers are offered a 10% coupon at this retailer, lowering the price to $29.69; this deal will run until November 3rd. The product is expected to be released on October 31st, with Amazon customers told to expect deliveries to be made in early November. Whether or when a version for the UK or EU markets could be released is unclear.
