Kamila Wojciechowska has offered up more details about the Pixel Watch 2, roughly two months before the smartwatch's release. For reference, only a few days have passed since the same leaker shared new first-party watch faces that are anticipated to be Pixel Watch 2 exclusives at launch. This time, Wojciechowska has focused on more technical details, including the smartwatch's battery capacity.
Reportedly, the Pixel Watch 2 has a 4% larger battery than its predecessor, with Google replacing the 294 mAh cell found in the current model with a 306 mAh one instead. While that is not necessarily a notable improvement itself, Google's alleged switch to Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 should bring considerable efficiency improvements on the Exynos 9110 that underpins the original Pixel Watch.
Wojciechowska adds that Google will continue to include an NXP-derived custom coprocessor, a version of which features in the Pixel Watch. Effectively, using a custom coprocessor negates the need to build the Pixel Watch 2 around the Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1, a variant that only adds a QCC5100 coprocessor over its standard counterpart. Moreover, the Pixel Watch 2 will contain an ultra-wideband (UWB) chip (NXP SR100T), the exact usage of which remains unknown at this stage. Reputedly, this year's Pixel Watch will return with a 1.2-inch OLED display too, again operating at 384 x 384 pixels. For now, Google is expected to unveil the Pixel Watch 2 this autumn during the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro's launch event.
