Huawei has released a new HarmonyOS 3-based update for the Watch 4 Pro, one-half of the Watch 4 series. To recap, Huawei officially announced the Watch 4 Pro in May alongside the regular Watch 4. A month later, the company then brought the Watch 4 series to Europe, with MSRPs set at €449 and €549 for the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Pro, respectively.
According to the likes of Gamingdeputy and Techgoing, Huawei is now rolling out HarmonyOS 3.1.0.168 to the Watch 4 Pro. Based on a machine translation of the screenshot below, HarmonyOS 3.1.0.168 adds free diving and playground running modes to the Watch 4 Pro, as well as support for Huawei S-TAG exercise trackers. Please see our launch article for more details about the S-TAG and its feature set.
Additionally, the company tends to take a few weeks or months to deliver equivalent updates globally. Moreover, the new update enables the option of triggering manual ephemeris updates, while Huawei also claims to have optimised notification prompts for sleep reports. Arguably, the biggest changes contained within HarmonyOS 3.1.0.168 are alleged performance and power consumption improvements.
Huawei has not confirmed the exact details of these latter two improvements, although it clarifies that it will only apply in 'some scenarios'. It is worth noting that the new update appears to be a Chinese exclusive at first, as is often the case with Huawei wearables. As the screenshot below shows, HarmonyOS 3.1.0.168 is nearly a 600 MB file size, which will be transferred through the Huawei Health app once downloaded on a paired smartphone. Thus, the next update for the global version of the Watch 4 could be a rather large one.
