Google Pixel 9 Pro XL shown in comparison video with Pixel 8 Pro
TikTok channel Pixophone has posted more comparison footage of one of Google's next Pixel smartphones. To recap, Pixophone has showcased the Pixel 9 next to the Pixel 8, as well as the Pixel 9 Pro XL against the Galaxy S24 Ultra (curr. $965 on Amazon). Now, the same account has published a short video in which the Pixel 9 Pro XL can be seen alongside the Pixel 8 Pro, its direct predecessor.
Embedded below via YouTube, the short clip highlights that the Pixel 9 Pro XL is roughly the same size as last year's model. Likewise, the pair have flat displays, unlike the Pixel 7 Pro. With that being said, the Pixel 9 Pro XL looks slightly thicker than the Pixel 8 Pro because of its flat mid-frame. By contrast, Google attempted to hide the latter's 8.8 mm thickness by applying a subtle curvature to its mid-frame.
Incidentally, Google has moved some areas around between generations. For example, the company has repositioned the SIM card tray, which sits on the Pixel 9 Pro XL's bottom edge in lieu of a second speaker cut-out. Additionally, regulatory inscriptions like a CE mark now occupy where Google included the SIM card slot on the Pixel 8 Pro. Moreover, the camera housing no longer blends in to the device's mid-frame, although it does not appear to have grown in thickness between the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. For reference, Google will not only unveil the Pixel 9 Pro XL on August 13, but also the following other devices:
