Multiple rumours about Nvidia's putative RTX 50 Super refresh emerged over the past few weeks. It would include at least three SKUs: RTX 5080 Super, RTX 5070 Ti Super and RTX 5070 Super. Initially slated to launch at CES 2026, the GPUs were expected to offer a much-needed VRAM upgrade. A new rumour now states they may have been canned outright.
Uniko's Hardware over at X states Nvidia has ditched the mid-cycle refresh due to extreme shortages of 3 GB GDDR7 modules. That isn't surprising, given the recent astronomical increases in DRAM prices. Then again, the RTX 50 Super series only existed in rumours, with no official confirmation, or even a teaser, from Nvidia.
The leak suggests that existing GPUs could also face a price hike due to the aforementioned memory shortages. It could also be the reason for Nvidia scaling back production on the RTX 5090 Founders Edition. Even AMD had some new RDNA 4 desktop GPUs lined up, and ideally, they should be relatively unaffected because they'll likely stick with last-gen GDDR6 VRAM modules.
