Nvidia is rumoured to be preparing GeForce RTX 50 Super launches before the end of the year. In response, AMD is now tipped to bring a refreshed Radeon RX 9070 GRE to market during the same period with upgrades over the current model to better target the GeForce RTX 5070 Super.

AMD already offers the Radeon RX 9070 Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) as a bridge between the Radeon RX 9060 XT and Radeon RX 9070 (curr. $599 on Amazon). For context, the Radeon RX 9070 GRE features 12 GB of VRAM like the Radeon RX 7900 GRE before it, rather than 16 GB like the Radeon RX 9060 XT and Radeon RX 9070. Also, AMD's latest GRE-branded card loses over 14% of the Compute Units (CUs) found in the Radeon RX 9070 while retaining the Navi 48 GPU used across the Radeon 9070 series and Radeon AI Pro R9700.

According to new rumours seemingly originating from Board Channels, AMD plans to refresh the Radeon RX 9070 GRE later this year with a new option. Reportedly, the new variant will launch next month or by October at the latest with 16 GB of VRAM, which would further narrow the gap to the Radeon RX 9070. Other specifications remain unknown for now though, including whether AMD plans to upgrade the Radeon RX 9070 GRE in other areas like additional CUDA cores, ROPs or TMUs, where the current model also falls short of the Radeon RX 9070.

Likewise, Board Channels forum members do not rule out AMD offering the new Radeon RX 9070 GRE globally. Regardless, this rumour has arrived against the backdrop of reported GeForce RTX 50 Super series refreshes launching in Q4 2025. Of the three rumoured, the GeForce RTX 5070 Super seems the most comparable with its 18 GB of VRAM, 6,400 CUDA cores, 2 additional Streaming Multiprocessors (SM) for an alleged $549 MSRP. Please see our prior article for more details about not just the GeForce RTX 5070 Super, but also the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Super and GeForce RTX 5080 Super.
