Garmin shares beta update with new GPS and heart-rate tracking features
The Garmin vivoactive 5 smartwatch is receiving beta update 10.08. The software marks the start of a new testing cycle for the wearable and follows the recent announcement of a major public update rolling out to the watch with five headline features.
Version 10.08 gives beta testers access to a new lost phone tool, allowing you to use the smartwatch's built-in GPS to navigate you to the device's last known location. Another improvement is the ability to dynamically optimize the source of heart rate data. This suits users who work out wearing both their vivoactive 5 watch and a chest heart rate monitor, aiming to enhance the accuracy of their tracked heart rate.
If you are a member of the Garmin Beta program, the update can be downloaded on your vivoactive 5 smartwatch via the Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update. Any problems you encounter can be logged on the forum for the Garmin team to review. Should you wish to join the beta program, you can do so through Garmin Connect. The same update is also rolling out to the Venu 3 series wearables. It remains to be seen when the company plans to roll out these new features to all units of the vivoactive 5 and Venu 3 series smartwatches in a public update.
