GOG kicks off October with a spooky puzzle adventure giveaway

Whispering Willows is a dark adventure game that follows Elena Elkhorn, a young girl with the ability to communicate with spirits through a mystical amulet. She uses this gift to uncover the mystery of her father's disappearance. Just in time for October, the game promises a gruesome atmosphere and emotional storytelling.

The central setting is Willow Mansion. Elena's father disappeared in this old manor, which is full of ghosts and dark secrets. Whispering Willows is played from a side-scrolling perspective, with gameplay consisting of exploring the mansion, solving puzzles and finding clues. With the help of the magical amulet, Elena can not only speak with ghost, but also separate her spirit from her body and overcome obstacles that are inaccessible to her physical body.

Whispering Willows was developed by Night Light Interactive and published by Akupara Games in July 2014 - therefore it has already celebrated its 10th birthday. On Steam, the average rating is good with 81 percent positive ratings from around 1,100 reviews. However, on Metacritic, the ratings are notably lower, with a Metascore of 63 and a User Score of 6.1. Critics and players have pointed out that the story feels predictable, and the puzzles are often considered too easy. Nonetheless, Whispering Willows could still be worth a look for a bit of spooky fun at the beginning of October - not least because it is available for free on GOG until October 6 (regularly $8).
