New Sonic Heroes sequel might launch in 2025, as per latest rumors
When Sonic Heroes first hit consoles in 2003, it shook up the series by introducing a team-based gameplay style. Players could switch between characters on the fly, combining speed, power, and flight to conquer stages. The game brought Sonic and friends together in teams like Team Sonic, Team Dark, and Team Rose - a fresh spin on the classic fast-paced platforming. Though it received mixed reviews, many fans still have a soft spot for the approach Nintendo took.
Fast-forward to 2024, and rumors are now circulating that a new Sonic Heroes game is in development. According to a notable leaker, the project, code-named "SHR," has been in motion since 2023, with a tentative release set for Autumn 2025. This is the same leaker who previously leaked information regarding the third Sonic Movie, but their images were removed due to a copyright infringement complaint.
While little has been confirmed at this point, we can already speculate how Sega might update the team mechanics for a new style of gaming. Improved graphics, updated team abilities, and perhaps even an online multiplayer mode could be among the features, given how powerful today's hardware is as compared to 2003.
It’s exciting news, but as with any rumor, it’s best to wait for official word from the publisher. For now, Sonic fans can only dream about what this new game might bring, if and when it sees the light of day.
