Crazy Taxi, a classic series from SEGA, is getting a reboot. Per the latest video uploaded on SEGA's YouTube channel, the new game is described by the developers as an open-world, multiplayer title that will be powered by Unreal Engine.
This new large-scale driving game is also said to be incorporating the classic, chaotic aspect that the classic Crazy Taxi titles are known for. However, there will be additional mechanics, and the multiplayer aspect will enable players to have a different experience with the new installment.
As for the original game, SEGA released it in arcades back in 1999. The idea was simple, but it managed to get gamers hooked up for hours. At the core, it allowed you to be a taxi driver, speeding through the city to get the passengers to their destinations. You could also perform stunts to earn points.
SEGA released the first Crazy Taxi game on Dreamcast a year later, which allowed the title to gain more popularity. This success eventually brought out two sequels, and now, the developers are preparing to launch a modern reboot. Speaking of which, SEGA announced this reboot back in 2023 at The Game Awards show.
Four other franchise expansions were also announced, including Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, and Jet Set Radio. After the announcement, SEGA showcased a joint teaser trailer for the five games, which gave us the first official look at the gameplay of each game. This joint teaser trailer, along with the latest Japanese video, is attached below for you to check out.
