Rumor | Fossil is working on its Wear OS 3-compatible smartwatch app
Fossil is a brand that has backed itself as one of the first to adopt Google's latest Wear OS 3 system for smartwatches. However, its latest wearable has launched still on version 2, while Samsung reportedly forges ahead with One UI for Watch 4.5. However, a leaker now asserts that the owner of Skagen is not that far behind.
This source, known as FossilGuy1111 on Reddit, refers to themselves as someone based in Silicon Valley with a leading position on the OEM's "Product team". The user has released a missive purporting to detail the changes and updates planned for its upcoming software update.
This, apparently, includes a full-scale streamlining of the brand's UI, which may be perceived as over-complicated and bloated at present. However, u/FossilGuy1111 predicts that all of these problems will be solved in the new "big update" - which includes a "phone app" currently being developed to support Wear OS 3.
Fossil is allegedly "working closely with Google" in order to optimize this interface for all its eligible connected watches. These devices are tipped to upgrade to the new version of Wear OS later this year, which matches previous projections direct from the company. Therefore, it seems products like the Gen 6 might be able to catch up in terms of UX soon after all.
