First signs of Fossil Gen 7 and Skagen Gen 7 smartwatches emerge
It seems that Fossil is preparing to release a new generation of smartwatches. For context, Fossil announced Gen 6 smartwatches in August 2021 with the Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus and blood-oxygen tracking. Subsequently, the company introduced the Razer X Fossil Gen 6, a limited-edition smartwatch aimed at gamers. A few days later, Skagen unveiled the Falster Gen 6, essentially a Fossil Gen 6 in a sleeker chassis.
Now, Gadgets & Wearables has noticed FCC filings for DW14 and DW15, both smartwatches. According to FCC's documentation, the pair are engineering samples and will be released as the DW14F1, DW14S1, DW15F1 and DW15S1. However, the FCC notes that F1 and S1 smartwatches are identical, save for 'different model names for marketing purposes'. Additionally, another document lists DW14 and DW15 dimensions as:
- DW14F1: 49 x 53.67 x 15.6 mm - 140 g with a watch strap
- DW14S1: 44.5 x 49.5 x 13.5 mm - 80 g with a watch strap
- DW15F1: 43.6 x 47.3 x 14.7 mm - 120 g with a watch strap
- DW15S1: 40.2 x 45.5 x 13.5 mm - 60 g with a watch strap
Moreover, the FCC states that the DW14 and DW15 will come with the same CB846E-6040-102 charger as previous Fossil smartwatches. As Gadgets & Wearables notes, the FCC refers to DW15S1 as a Skagen smartwatch, which is also the smallest and lightest of the four models. Unfortunately, it is unclear when Fossil or Skagen will present new smartwatches. Presumably, any new Fossil Group smartwatches will launch with Wear OS 3 and the Snapdragon Wear 5100 platform, which last leaked in February.
