Snapdragon Wear 3100-powered Fossil Gen 5E smartwatch with Wear OS now up for pre-order

Fossil Gen 5 owners should relax and wait for the Gen 6 to show up, but those who were considering the purchase of a Fossil smartwatch should go ahead and grab the slightly cheaper and brand-new Gen 5E. The Fossil Gen 5E is now present on the company's website, up for pre-order, and shipments are expected to kick off next month.

Powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor next to 1 GB of memory, the Fossil Gen 5E is 2 mm smaller than the Gen 5 (42 mm vs. 44 mm) and only features 4 GB of storage space (8 GB on the Gen 5). The list of highlights mentioned by Fossil in the Gen 5E presentation video embedded below the final paragraph of this article also includes sleep and activity tracking, a built-in speaker, as well as multiple battery modes.

In addition to the above, we should also mention WiFi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, a PPG heart rate sensor, water-resistance, a price tag of US$249.99 for the watch and a starting price of US$29 for the straps. The Fossil website currently has seven Gen 5E smartwatches listed for sale: four models for the ladies and three for men. Ladies get four color choices for each model, while men only get three colors to choose from. For each model, there are plenty of straps to choose from, including steel, leather, and silicone ones.
