Fossil begins teasing its next Wear OS smartwatch
It has been a long time coming, but Samsung is finally a day away from unveiling its first Wear OS smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The pair will feature the Exynos W920, Samsung's latest SoC and the first 5 nm chipset for wearables. However, Fossil also has another Wear OS smartwatch planned, as we have reported previously. Now, the company has emailed a teaser to fans, which has made its way to Reddit.
The teaser states that Fossil's latest and most advanced smartwatch will be unveiled 'soon', which probably still means this autumn. The same teaser contains the text 'way more way faster', a not so subtle nod to the Gen 6 having a more powerful SoC than the Gen 5 or Gen 5E.
While it seems that Qualcomm is readying the Snapdragon Wear 5100, there are no guarantees that Fossil has sourced this for the Gen 6. In fact, the current Snapdragon Wear 4100 would be 'way faster' than the Wear 3100 found in the Gen 5 and Gen 5E.
Hopefully, that is not the case. However, the software situation for the Gen 6 does not give us hope for the Wear 5100. For some reason, Google has decided that the Fossil Gen 6 will launch with Wear OS 2.xx, not Wear OS 3. Bizarrely, the likes of Fossil and Mobvoi will be without Wear OS 3 until the middle of 2022.
