Fossil has released its first Snapdragon Wear 3100-powered smartwatch. This watch (the Sport) is marketed as very much an outdoor companion that could replace your phone on runs or workouts. Fossil claims that it is 'swim-proof' and can charge by 80% with an hour's charge.

The Fossil Sport has an aluminium and nylon case with interchangeable silicon straps. They come in 6 colors: black, smoke blue, red, neon green, gray and blush. It is compatible with the iOS versions 9.3 and later, and with Android 4.4 or later. However, it is not compatible with Android GO ROMs. Each Fossil Sport also has Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi.

Fossil also claims that the Sport's battery is rated for all-day use. In addition, it has stand-alone GPS, presumably so the user can track their run times and routes independently of their phone. The Fossil Sport is available from the brand's online store, at a price of US$255.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
