Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear 3100 mobile processor might arrive next month
Qualcomm is almost ready to hit the market with a new processor, but this time we are not talking about a chip for smartphones, phablets, and tablets. Although the name and details are not official yet, the popular chip maker has already teased a special launch event for September 10. Its headline says "It's Time. 9.10 set your watches" so it has to be something involving smartwatches.
Insiders familiar with the inner workings of the American multinational semiconductor and telecommunications equipment company claim that the upcoming chip will launch as the Snapdragon 3100. Its specs are expected to be similar to those of the Snapdragon Wear 2500 — 28 nm and four Cortex-A7 cores.
The recently unleashed Snapdragon Wear 2500 targets 4G smart wearables for kids, so the Snapdragon Wear 3100 will probably aim a bit higher (premium mid-range and high-end smartwatches, advanced fitness trackers, and so on). These being said, we can bet that Qualcomm will come up with a few more teasers until next month's event, so stay tuned for more Snapdragon Wear 3100-related teasers, leaks, and rumors until then.
