NVIDIA announced the new RTX 20 Super series for laptops a while ago heralding a change in how the company is positioning its offerings for gaming laptops. We now exclusively have access to the first synthetic benchmarks of the new RTX 2060 Mobile and RTX 2070 Super Mobile GPUs that give us an idea of their performance in comparison with other desktop and laptops GPUs from NVIDIA.
RTX 2070 Super Mobile and new RTX 2060 Mobile 3DMark results
We got access to several 3DMark benchmarks including Fire Strike, Fire Strike Extreme, Fire Strike Ultra, and Time Spy.
In Fire Strike, we see that the mobile RTX 2070 Super Mobile is about 10% slower than the average score recorded by the RTX 2070 Super while the new RTX 2060 Mobile is just 8% slower than the desktop RTX 2060 while also being 9% faster than the original RTX 2060 Mobile. On an average, the RTX 2080 mobile is about 15% faster than the RTX 2070 Super Mobile. Similar trends are seen in Fire Strike Extreme and Fire Strike Ultra tests with the margins slightly increasing as the complexity of the tests increases from Extreme to Ultra.
In 3DMark Time Spy, we see the RTX 2070 Super Mobile trailing by 16% when compared to the desktop RTX 2070 Super although it shows a decent 6% lead when compared to the RTX 2080 Max-Q. The new RTX 2060 offers a 10% lead in Time Spy Graphics when compared to the original RTX 2060 Mobile and a modest 4% improvement over the RTX 2070 Max-Q.
Overall Performance
Taking into account all the 3DMark scores available so far, the new RTX 2070 Super Mobile is about 13% and 15% behind when compared to desktop RTX 2070 Super and the RTX 2080 Mobile, respectively in overall performance. We see also about 11% gains overall with the new Super Mobile card when compared to the RTX 2070 Mobile non-Super.
We also speculate that NVIDIA has fine-tuned the RTX 2060 Mobile to be slightly faster than the original offering. We are seeing appreciable improvements across the board in all 3DMark tests, which gives the new RTX 2060 Mobile a 7% overall higher performance compared to the average of all other RTX 2060 Mobile scores.
