Reviews for the Eurocom Sky X4E2
Source: Kitguru Archive.org version
The Eurocom Sky X4E2 is an impressive gaming laptop that offers a great many upgrade paths both at the time of order and also in the future. Right now in 2017 we have little idea about the plans of Intel and Nvidia and have no clue whether Eurocom will be able to offer a next generation CPU or GPU for this laptop. All we do know for sure is that they will do their best.

Model: Eurocom is based in Canada but has partnered with the Czech outfit, Goldmax, to provide EU-based support to its customers on this side of the Atlantic. The Eurocom Sky X4E2 packs more power than most desktops into a 15.6-inch laptop form factor. This understated 3.4 kg (7.5 lbs) NVIDIA VR Ready beast will go toe-to-toe with any laptop foolish enough to look it in the eye. Unlike other flagship gaming notebooks from big name manufacturers, the X4E2 encourages end-user modifications with features such as an LGA 1151 socket, MXM 3.0 slot, and 4x DDR4 SODIMM slots. This means owners can install desktop-class Skylake processors from their own home gaming rigs right onto the X4E2. This makes it a laptop that offers future upgrade paths as the laptop gets older. Eurocom is in a unique position, as it is the only vendor in the market to provide an extensive list of customization options to cater for professional users. Under the hood, the Eurocom Sky X4E2 runs on Intel Core i7-7700K CP, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 MXM GPU with 8 GB of GDDR5 VRAM, a single 16 GB RAM module, a 512 GB SSD (Samsung NVMe) and even a 1 TB hard disk drive for extra storage. The user can choose from an FHD (60Hz or 120Hz) G-SYNC panel or an Ultra HD 4K display. There is also a wide selection of memory options, starting from 8 GB all the way up to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM. In the storage department, the laptop offers room for up to 4 physical storage drives (two M.2 slots and two 2.5 inch bays), for a maximum storage capacity of up to 6 TB.
Data stored in the laptop will be protected with a Kensington lock, biometric security, and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) data encryption. TPM encrypts data so only owners have access to it, even if the machine is misplaced or stolen. The X4E2 also comes with a fully backlit (7 colors) keyboard and dedicated lighting software. This notebook has stylish air vents at the back, the Sound Blaster audio, the Killer NIC technology, gaming settings in the control panel, the ability to create key macros plus the fact that user can customize the color of the keyboard lights. The Sky X4E2 comes with Eurocom’s signature, industrial grade copper heatsinks, powerful centripetal fans, and a multi-layered motherboard technology to ensure maximum thermal efficiency. As for connectivity options, there is 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, six USB ports (including two TB3/Type-C), two mini DisplayPorts, one HDMI 2.0 port, four audio ports, one Ethernet connector, a card reader, and a fingerprint sensor. The Eurocom Sky X4E2 is a good alternative to the usual laptop brands.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile: Pascal based high-end mobile graphics card based on a cut down GP104 (like the GTX 1080) and GDDR5 graphics memory. Successor to the GTX 980M with a 10 Watts higher TDP. Similar to the desktop GTX 1070 performance wise, but with more shaders and lower clock speeds.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

i7-7700K: High-end quad-core desktop processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture running at 4.2 - 4.5 GHz. It is the top model of the Kaby Lake H-series in the beginning of 2017. The chip also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU clocked at 350 - 1100 MHz and is manufactured in a 14 nm process (improved compared to Skylake).» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.3.4 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
Eurocom: Eurocom Corporation is a computer hardware manufacturing company founded in 1989 with offices in Canada and USA. Eurocom produces Desktop Replacement Notebooks and Mobile Workstations.
80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
