Early purported Asus Zenfone 9, ROG Phone 6, ROG Phone 6 Pro 2D renders surface in the wild
Asus debuted the ROG Phone 5 and Zenfone 8 in April and May last year respectively. The company is already hard at work on the successors to those phones and the new year appears to have brought the first leaks on the Asus Zenfone 9 and ROG Phone 6, in the form of early 2D renders.
Starting off with the Zenfone 9, the phone appears to keep the general design language of the Zenfone 8, with two camera lenses isolated at the top left corner of the phone's rear. It gets interesting right after, however, as the leaked images show what looks to be a secondary display right beneath the camera lenses. Secondary displays have slowly become more popular over the past few years, with Xiaomi's Mi 11 Ultra standing out as one of the best implementations so far.
We're not sure how valid these images are, since they seem to originate from hidden app assets on the new Android 12 build for the Zenfone 8. Either way, there's a non-zero chance of this particular leak turning out to be true.
As for the ROG Phone 6 series, the gaming phones seem to also retain the general rear design of the ROG Phone 5. The renders show the ROG Phone 6 with a large "ROG O6" diagonal branding on its back, while the ROG Phone 6 Pro lacks that. In addition, both devices appear to have secondary displays as well—or so the source claims anyway. As previously mentioned, you'd do well to take all of this with a pinch of salt.
