Reviews for the Dell XPS 15 2016 9550
High-end without high-end performance. We review the new XPS 15 from Dell and have a look at the performance of the 45-Watt Core i5. Can the latter use its full potential in the flat chassis? Throttling is, fortunately, not the answer – at least not on mains.

Perhaps not this particular model, with its sluggish 5,400rpm hard disk. Instead, you should opt for one of the £1,149 machines, which comes equipped with a PCI Express-based SSD, or at the very least a model that also has a 32GB SSD cache. In return, system response, loading times and the general feel of Windows 10 will be far more sprightly.

The XPS 15 9550 has an unrivaled screen, fast hardware, and a killer design. But 5 months after its launch, it seems we're all still Dell's beta testers. This article reviews the XPS 15 9550 and tallies up the issues that haven't gone away.

It can play the latest games at reasonable settings, has a good screen and is a much more manageable size and than your average 15-inch laptop. Not to mention being rather lovely to use thanks to its high-quality keyboad and trackpad. Battery life is just passable, but that only really sticks out because Dell's own claims are so far removed from the reality.

The Dell XPS 15 is a faithful, up-sized rendition of the innovative XPS 13. Like its predecessor, the 15-incher cuts back on size and weight without sacrificing performance. In fact, the XPS 15 is a major leap over the previous model, at least in its top-tier configuration.

The Dell XPS 15 is a great all-rounder laptop. Come to it expecting superlatives, especially the version tested, and you may come away disappointed. However, it is very versatile indeed. It offers a powerful CPU, a competent discrete graphics card, a screen happy with the outdoors and a frame that's light and slim given the rest of the spec. It can do everything pretty well, without the power compromises of an ultra-skinny laptop, or the portability ones of a workstation. Some will be disappointed with the stamina, but it's actually rather respectable given the processor. It's a laptop that's good at just about everything, bar lasting absolutely ages between charges.

I’ll try to keep it short this time. The Dell XPS 15 9550 I5/960M version is a very good machine in my opinion, more than the usual $1000 gaming laptops – way more thin & lightweight, much better build quality, display has much higher contrast than the others and keyboard is better than compared to some of them too. And remember the better support in the form of drivers/bios updates.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
