Months have passed since we heard anything about a new Mini series drone from DJI. Instead, leakers have been focused on the Mavic 4 Pro, whose existence has been rumoured in one form or another for almost a year at this point. Ultimately, it seems that the Mavic 4 Pro will be DJI's next consumer release. However, there are suggestions that a Mini 5 or Mini 5 Pro will not be far behind.
Previously, there were reports that DJI would hold off until October before replacing the Mini 4 Pro (curr. $959 on Amazon). According to Jasper Ellens, the Mini 5 is actually launching this summer. If that proves to be accurate, then we would expect substantial leaks to begin surfacing either next month or by June at the latest.
In the meantime, a new image of the Mini 5 in testing has emerged online. Embedded below, the image suggests that DJI has equipped the Mini 5 with much larger motors than those found on the Mini 4 Pro. Also, propeller guards can be made out, which DJI has tended to avoid using on all but its first-person view (FPV) and some commercial drones.
Regardless, Ellens expects the Mini 5 to launch with an improved camera and LiDAR compared to the Mini 4 Pro. Presumably, the latter will derive from the Air 3S, which showcased DJI's LiDAR technology last year. Other details about the Mini 5, such as pricing, remain unknown for now.
