Citizen Spain has officially announced another pair of military-inspired watches for its new catalog: the AW1870-08A and the AW1877-09X. These models are designed with a classic field watch design, with the priority being visibility and construction over any other complications. Both timepieces have a 40 mm case diameter with a thickness of 10.4 mm, with a more compact and historically accurate profile compared to the 43 mm Citizen aviation chronographs we covered recently.
The AW1870-08A features a silver-tone steel case with a matte white dial and bold black Arabic hour numerals. A red minute track is present for color contrast, while the black handset is treated with a luminous coating for low-light visibility. In contrast, the AW1877-09X has a more contemporary "stealth" vibem. It utilizes a grey PVD-coated steel case and a textured olive green dial. Both references are bundled with heavy-duty green nylon straps with traditional buckle closures to stay faithful to the "field watch" designation.
The two new references are driven by the Caliber J810 Eco-Drive movement. This light-powered quartz engine maintains an 8-month power reserve on a full charge and features a simple date window at the 3 o'clock position. While the watches are marketed with a 10-bar (100-meter) water resistance rating and a threaded (screw-down) case back, the inclusion of mineral glass rather than sapphire could be undesirable to some potential buyers. Pricing in the Spanish market (Joyeria Pato) starts at €143.10 (approx. $169.45 USD) for the silver model and €152.10 (approx. $180.10 USD) for the grey PVD variant.
