Casio has officially unveiled a new Badge Collections feature for the Watches app. Users reported this addition late last year, but it is only recently that the feature has been more widely publicized by the brand.
The Badge Collections feature is designed for Casio watches that have an integrated step-counting sensor. Users can gain badges when they reach certain milestone step counts. Some badges to collect are inspired by iconic Casio characters like Gaussman, Frogman and Rangeman. However, to unlock these, you appear to need to earn all five colored badges linked to this character.
On top of this, the brand has teased other rare and challenge-linked badges, which will arrive at a later date; no further details have been provided here. Users of a compatible Casio watch are invited to start their Badge Collections in the Casio Watches app via a pop-up banner, which appears when they pair their watch via Bluetooth.
Casio makes it clear that users can collect these badges for fun, a way to gamify movement and compete with friends and family. Unfortunately, the app-based badges do not translate to physical badges and are not redeemable against the brand’s merchandise. The list of eligible Casio watches for the Badge Collections feature is provided on the brand's website. It includes models like the GBD800UC-3 watch, currently $98.89 at Amazon.
