Casio has been manufacturing calculators for decades, and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its first calculator, it has announced a new model that has a repositioned solar cell and comes in a range of beautiful colors.
The new calculator is the Comfy JT-200T, and unlike many of Casio's calculators which usually have a small solar cell above or next to the display, this not only has a much larger one that is the length of the calculator but also puts it in a new position — the top side of the calculator. Casio has inclined it so it isn't totally facing away from the user.
The calculator is made from a combination of materials that includes recycled resin and mica which doesn't easily show scratches. It also features the Casio Mini
key font first used in the Casio Mini calculator released in 1972. There's a kickstand underneath that tilts the calculator at an angle of 8 degrees and anti-slip feet. The screen can display up to 12 digits and the keys have dedicated tax buttons.
Unlike some devices which have a supercapacitor instead of a battery such as Lenovo's self-charging Bluetooth keyboard, Casio's calculator is powered by a CR2025 coin cell which it says will last up to 7 years if the calculator is used for an hour a day.
Casio will release the Comfy JT-200T calculator in Off White, Dark Gray, Grayish Pink, Grayish Green, and Grayish Blue, so buyers can choose a color that matches their space. The calculator will be released on January 30 and will cost ¥3,850 (~$25/€24). There is no news of a wider release yet.
